No more births - game broken
I don't know why, but at some point I have no more births. Maybe because I kept low room for new people for a while. Now although I have at least 50 more population capacity my people grow (slightly) only with immigration. I have pregnant women but no births happen. Also my prestige score was stuck at 940 and now it decreases...
Do I miss something ? Anybody having the same troubles ?

What's your workload like? What are your food levels like?

I keep my workload around 100% and between 70 and 125 %. I'm full of food but it doesn't seem to be related to the absence of new births...

That’s aging population, the result of controlling it by not building houses for population growth. It takes awhile until you have a balance adult versus olds.

A 33% each population should propel growth. It takes a little while so you must protect “girls and adult women”. And in order for you to maintain that balance again protect the women and girls all the time. Workload is ok up to below 150%. Just make sure you have more food, clothing’s, morale structures, water, good heat and tools/weapons.

What do you mean ? Does this mean I should keep 33% of children, 33% of adults and 33% of old people ?

No it’s once you have that ratio then growth can start mostly the adults (women) must be higher than the olds. If the olds are still greater than the adults (women) the balance is disproportionately to the growth of population.
I guess women after 45 won’t get pregnant. If you can keep adult women higher than old women births will come easily.
So if an adult women get sick you must try to heal her.

So you're getting migrants because you have food stocks, but no births because of the wrokload.

100% workload means your settlers are dedicating 100% of their time to settlement tasks, meaning they don't have time for their own personal tasks, like say, making more settlers.

It’s just a waiting game until populations are balanced with more adult women giving birth to more girls.

If a settlement is very well established very high workloads are fine. Other tasks will be completed later especially if the villagers are working nearby.

Here my workload is 213 but they still finished the planting despite being raided in the same planting season. In the end the harvest was bountiful and animals were also butchered.

What are you talking about ? What ratio ?

Again, what is it ? Are you talking about their age ? How do you know it ?

In the main game screen click on the settler icon top right OR press F2 which will open the stats window showing amongst other stats the population divided by age.

Age jumps by 5 years by each turn of the year at spring, this goes for any entity that's part of your settlement.
Immigrant ages are random, so if you have adults arriving in autumn, they can turn old the following spring and you could have a surplus of elderly. This could lead to a streak of mortalities of oldies, which leads to a temporary setback of 'welfare'.
Welfare is measured by deaths/births, clothing for everyone, sufficient living space, surplus of food and technological advancement.

Migration depends on welfare, prestige and extra living space minus pregnancies.
Number of pregnancies can be found by hovering over the adult females in the population screen. They'll be visible after the season in which they became pregnant and then it'll take another 2 seasons before birth.
Fertility rate depends on overall welfare, moderate workload and obviously the number of female adults. Blizzards do wonders :)

The game will level out the gender balance eventually, but you could have a streak of male births/immigrants since gender is also random. The only worrisome situation is when your females are all old or when there's no adult/old male alive.
Males can reproduce their entire adult/old life, females can only be impregnated when they're adult but can birth when they're old. All humans turn adult when passing age 16 and turn old when passing age 45.

If you want to find out the exact ages of entities, duplicate your save game, rename it from [.sav] to [.zip], unzip and open it in a text editor. That's how I found out how the age system works.

Yes I know but unfortunately I have pregnancies but no births, that's my problem...

Press F2 and hover mouse to adult female and take screenshot.

The pregnancies will show but there will be no notification/s of birth after you have 50 population. Every time oregnancies diminish you will see increase on girl or boy. But if your population is aging meaning you have more old people than adults especially female your population won’t grow quickly. You will have birth but some will die of age. You have to have at least equal numbers of adult female to old females. And if your new born is a girl or you have a girl immigrant the faster your population can grow after you controlled it.

On my 1st screenshot you will see I have 9 pregnancies on my 20 adult females. But I have 25 old females, forget about males. The birth is almost alternate girl or boy but I easily grew my population after 2-3 years from 118 to 130 and if I don’t control it anymore it will increase. My prestige is just above 500 though my welfare is high.

After a population of 50 the game doesn't give messages of births or deaths anymore.
Could it be that you do have births but you don't notice them and in the meantime other women become pregnant keeping the pregnancy number level?

Women don't deliver in the game until they go for a nap, so you could try all adult women for a few seasons and if no births happen, it's likely a very rare mishap so you may wanna start a new game.

Could be but it's unlikely because I have very few births in that case...
