SHEAR MADNESS (make it stop)
All sheep are born with auto-shear. Even when you set the Wool limit to zero, all sheep automatically generate a shear task. You can set your sheep limit to 30, and then after winter is over, you'll have 40 sheep (each making a shear task). Then watch as your starving population sets about shearing all 40 sheep (instead of culling the excess) until they all literally die of starvation. Or, you know... you can get down to the clickity-clickity (FORTY TIMES).

It's so awesome the way that works :steamfacepalm:

Why the hell you need 40 sheeps.¿. What is your population like 250?

People here seem to like building a zoo for kids.

I agree with the OP's assessment, though. You basically can't keep Sheep in this game because of how the AI handles them.

The problem, though, is not necessarily that Sheep are born with auto-sheer ... it may also be that the task manager completely ignores the limit set on Wool.

Whatever the case, I hope they address Sheep Shearing soon.

All I'm gonna say is that they didn't exactly have the internet or even cable back then... so don't go judging them for what they did with their sheep. And with that in mind, can you ever actually have too many? :steammocking:

I think the big question here is why the hell your population starving? Do you have any other animals besides sheep? My normal setup is 30 goats, 20 sheep and 30 cattle. To feed all of them you'll need around 8 5x5 grain plots to produce enough straw to last for winter. I normally plant half of my plots with barley since it produces 25% extra straw. I don't have any pigs since they don't produce any extra resource like wool or milk.

But that's for population ~200 since workload will be quite high. With additional fishing and auto-slaughtering all animals beyond limit I have constantly growing supply of grain, meat and wool that I trade for ores.

If you have sheep only or have 40 of them at population below 150 you're doing this wrong. You really need that milk from goats and cattle to keep your people fed.

Also make sure you have enough facilities to produce flour and bread. You might have enough grain but not enough places to process it.

Yeah... it's a hypothetical scenario boiled down to the core issues to make a point quickly... but I could see where you might identify it as an opportunity to brag. So... great job dude!

By the way, cattle and goats are udderly useless. See what I did there?

also the auto butcher them and then the villages leave the sledges/carts full of meat to rott is also a insane one too at lest make it so the children can retrieve the meat outta the carts or better yet make it so the butcher leaves the meat on the ground so the children can properly place them where they need to go .watching carts of meat rott while they travel from place to place or parked right in from of grannerys and wharehouse just to be moved to another location and left to rott is insane.

Note this issue. But somehow these meat disappear onto the meat drying. Wonder who put it up.

Some u see a cart with meat is bring along to cut wood.
It better a task is add to empty different material back into storage before send to cut tree.

Wool, wool cloth and wool clothing make good selling items. I have unlimited wool, several weavers or watermill, the limit for clothing can be increased and the extra clothing sold.

Domestic sheep need to be sheared. I limit my animals. I play with the game not against it.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

The wool limit seems broken, we are fixing it in next patch.
