Starving, hunt, kill then leave food on the ground to rot?
I don't get it. Why cant I tell my people to go get the food instead of wander around? I kill animals and to food sits there and rots on the ground after the hunter leaves. How do I get my people to go get the loot?

You can. Highlight a person, right click on the dead animal.

... but it really shouldn't be necessary to micro-manage to that extent.
Surely the purpose of hunting the animal is to get its resources - not to let them lie and rot :-)

Agreed. If there is some other way I'd love to know about it.
I cant stand having to watch each individual person and make them go back to the kill time and time again to fill their inventory before going back rather than picking up 1 item and wasting all the time travelling.
The only ones who fill their inventory are the ones carving him up.

It's all automated, at least in my game. Sometimes the person hunting will not be the one butchering or taking the animals resources though, for example if he wants to go back to the village to fulfill his needs. However there are always other villagers that will pick up the task. I do absolutely zero micromanagement in my game. Maybe you aren't giving them enough time to collect the resources? Usually when my guys kill animals, after they butchered the animal half of my village will make it's way to the butchered animals to collect all the resources. And all of this without me doing anything at all, except selecting animals to hunt in the beginning.

If it doesn't work like that for you and they never pick up the stuff from animals, then this clearly sounds like a bug that needs to get fixed.

The hunter should fill his inventory first, then the other villagers come and do the rest...
His needs should be secondary to the needs of the tribe: "The needs of the many..."

Ai on this game is pretty stupid... They'll leave a dead animal and do something else or idle and have that message saying the workplace is overloaded
Draken Mar 4, 2019 @ 4:05pm
Yes, because the AI already send someone else to the dead animal.

Need to micromanage sometimes, select villager with space in inventory and click on item to directly get them to transport it back to storage

How many tasks do you have running simultaneously? Do you have multiple people fishing and gathering and/or do you have the crafter continuously making things like tools and weapons versus a percentage or set amount?

I always have concerns with AI in games like this, but found that I haven't had any issues with this one because most issues are caused by having too much going on at once and too little understanding of how things intertwine (initially). Also, not everyone needs a spear, sling, or bow, but I make sure everyone has a knife.

Lastly, during harvesting seasons (primarily summer) try to do less hunting and more harvesting, and then fall, winter, and spring build up your meat/skins reserves - oh, and utilize the trader - don't try to do it all on your own.

Sounds like you have a workload problem because my hunters will kill a animal and then fill their inventory and then leave the rest for the villagers to get. When I have transports the hunter kills the animal and fills his inventory and his transport and then runs off. Your problem sounds like the AI having to prioritize an excessive number of orders.

You probably lack the knives to butcher them. If they hunt with a knife with them they usually immediately butcher the animal.
