Food & Equipment
Hello. How do you get the villagers to eat food that is about to go bad (25-35%) before they get spoil/rotten? Is there a way to force them to eat food that is losing their wear/tear %? Everything in the game has a wear & tear (decay over time) so its a never ending battle to always gather resources/supplies. When food that is/are about to go spoil, is there a way to get a villager to eat those meat/fruits? Even if villager hunger is at 20-30%, keep trying to have them eat food that is about to expire but they keep putting them back into the tents or storage. Seems a waste.
As for equipment, how do you equip villagers with certain weapons instead of the ones they have currently? Is there a way to exchange/swap out weapon for better ones or ones that is/are needed for hunt? Instead of carrying current wooden weapons or slings? Some villagers have wooden spear and sling some have wooden harpoon, how do you get them to equip slings (would like to see all the villagers (minus children) to have slings/bone weapons when starting out (once they get the tech to learn it that is).

I would also like to know the answer to this. The game even "tooltips" you to eat the fruit in the summer and save the cured meat for the winter, but I can't figure out how!

As for the other, I've watched my folks run up to the ground after I buy better weapons from trader and swap theirs out...they put the lesser one on the ground where the better one was sitting. It's entertaining to watch them scurry. :P

I have come to the conclusion that when this happens you are producing or gathering more of this foodstuff than your population can consume as what gets eaten and when is regulated by the game. If you find that your berry supply is constantly rotting and getting thrown out, then you need to cut back on the amount/size of gathering areas you are using for this item till it balances out.

I find this same thing happens when you first start bread production. If you don't find that sweet spot when you set the bread amount to be baked to equal to the amount the population actually eats then you will have spoilage.

In both the situations listed above, spoilage indicates a waste of manpower that could be used on something else that needs to be done, berries are labor intensive to gather and store, bread is labor intensive 3 times ( once to harvest, once to grind to flour, once to bake ). Thus, if you produce no more than your population consumes and set your quotas correctly, your workforce labor demands will benefit also.

Also, in the case of bread, grain stores longer than flour, flour stores longer than bread, so only ever process what you actually need to keep up the next step in the processing chain. :steamhappy:

I liked your explanation.
Now I want to abuse your patience: how much does one person eat each year?

Well, I can't answer that, but, I actually have seen that very question posted and answered on here once. The answer was in the form of X amount of food per month I think, so not sure how one is going to break that down in to how much of which kind! Finding the balance is a bit of "on the go experimenting" to say the least! Your workforce will thank you! :steamhappy:

I don't have the link handy, but devs have stated that villagers will automatically attempt to eat food that is closer to expiration as long as said food is not physically far away. No more detail provided than that though.

The AI also automatically equips the tool needed for the assigned task. It is supposed to prioritize the best version of the tool over an older, less-capable version.

Last I knew, villagers ate less than six food / year (somebody got from game files). Not sure if that has changed in patches since release, though.
