Donkeys are silly and make smart ass remarks while horses are more of the yee-haw sort of animal.

No difference confirmed so far. Some people have speculated about life-span but no proof shown.

currently it seems more a case of diversity. Having both limits influence of diseases like in the other livestock types.

Yea that's one thing I find strange on this game. Is that animals like that, and weapons, and tools in later ages don't seem better.. So what's the point in upgrading?

I think biggest difference is, you need shelter for the horse in winter time. Donkey you dont need a shelter. So in terms of room i think donkeys are better. Right now i have 30 donkeys and 0 horses for pop of 200

AFAIK all domestic animals need shelter unless carted.

Well dogs are also domesticated btw😀 but don’t need shelter.

The horse can pull carts marginally faster. Also if you domesticate both you have more options when trying to tame animals.

It'd be nice if the help section of the game pointed out stat differences between animals like this better, and for many other aspects of the game it is too vague.

But maybe the horse can be used for something else, later in the game ? ...
And donkeys for carrying loads on their backs ... :lunar2019smilingpig:

And since we're talking about draught animals, and plows ?
Wooden plow, iron plow ... the Celts had even invented a reaper pushed by a horse ...

This game is so good, and it leads to so many thoughts ... the possible options are huge !

Have a good day ! :wolf_paw:

We are actually thinking of adding more uses fore the draught animals at some point, but it all has to be added with care as not to upset the current balance of things.

Does anyone know if the cart production limits are for the horse/donkey amounts? or the settler amounts? like if i set it to 100% and have 300 settlers and only 60 horse/donkeys will they make 60 carts or 300?

I would like to know this aswell, really wish the game woukd make some things more clear.

It's referring to your human population, they would make 300 carts.

That's kind of a dumb system if I'm being honest, there should be a way to make it produce for the appropriate animal populations.

Personally I found this really confusing. I built two barns (stables..?), each taking 10 animals. When I brought up the tamed animals bar, it even gave the "max" 20 animals (ok I get it now, it means I have shelter for 20, not max count you can actually have... but that took me a while to realize). Still, when setting the limits for the domesticated animals, making it 50% for the goats and 50% for the sheep, I would interpret it as 50% out of the 20 possible shelter spots... i.e. 10 of each...
Now, I know this isn't the case, and I quickly learned to just set the number manually. But I only know this from searching for this specific information externally.
I just think this % of population is sometimes really confusing and not at all intuitive! Especially since the default is set at 100%... who the heck wants their animals set at "Oh, I've got 100 ppl, then I want 100 sheep"??
For weapons and clothes it makes perfect sense. But for the animals: at least add a better description to the mouse over, state that it's 100% of the human population, and NOT the animal population. And maybe don't use "100% of the human population" as the default setting?
