Best way to get food?

I am up to 120 population and no matter what i do my tribe starves to death. I tried canceling every task and send them hunting or trying to get them to make bread but nothing is working. I'm down to 15 population now. I'm thinking I should start a new game? And yes I do have farms aswell.

By the time you have farms, that is the best way to make food. You should be making enough grain per harvest, that you can comfortably feed all your people.
Worth noting, you may not want to grind all your grain up into flour though. Grain keeps for much longer then flour, so do some adjustments.
Bread also doesn't keep long, so adjust that as well. By default, I think both are set to like infinite? Or maybe 100% of your population.

just have a ton of farms and 10 of each small animal and 5 of the large, set your bread output to 125% of population, set max animals to what i list above and anything over will be slaughtered to maintain those numbers, soon as i reached farms I never hunted again, build 5 hearth fires and 5 mortar and pestles and build a lot of hay stacks and gaineries and storage , make sure to watch the seasons and only build and hunt in summer and winter, leave spring and fall for planting and harvesting., hope this helps, took me many tries before i figured it out

Something went to ♥♥♥♥ and I didn't catch it early enough. I had every crop but i was lacking on the animals. I didn't know you could set limits on your livestock (That magical F4 button) and I just had 60 goats they were really frustrating, it took for ever to slaughter them all. I guess that's what did me in cause after i killed them that's when it happened I thought I would have enough time to get sheep. I was thinking because of the clothes, but now that I know that F4 button exits I can see the benift of having every animal. Wish me luck in round 2.

"set your bread output to 125% of population" - Don't do that, bread spoils, I have mine set to 30 and have 170 population. Keeping everyone fed is really quite easy, just make sure you have enouph grain, hay, and livestock, supplemented with some fishing and vegitables. My 170 population has 8 barns and like 7 full fields of grain.

"I just had 60 goats they were really frustrating, it took for ever to slaughter them all." - Set your livestock limits and they will be slaughtered automatically. My 170 population I keep around 15 sheep, 30 pigs, 30 cows, 20 horses.
