Work Area Production Settings?
I am a little puzzled by the different production area settings. Can someone explain them a bit better? By default, it's set to 10 units.....does that mean that after getting 10 units, it quits using that area or what? Then after this setting, it can be set to different percentages of the population. Then you can set to infinity......I'm trying to understand what is best and how to really use these settings.

Your people will stop working when reaching the limit number, yes. They'll keep coming back when the number drops below the limit. Figuring out how much you need of different items is half the game. :lunar2019smilingpig:

Thats the global limit.
The task system will stop creating tasks that produce the given resource once the limit is reached.

The percentage is a percentage of your population.

Areas only run out if all non renewable resources are exhausted.

So most basic resources should be set to a small limit, like 10 or 20.
Things that your population needs to use, like tools or clothes, should be set to a certain percentage. Not everyone of your workers needs a fishing rod, but everyone should have some warm clothes.

Animals should be set to about 15 to 20, to keep a stable breeding population.

That's kind of what I thought but I'm still a bit puzzled about best settings. When I first started playing this game, my population got so big, I didn't have enough food so they starved to death. I started a new game and tried to control the population better by limiting the number of huts to make sure I had enough food for them. Now I'm seeing my fruit and meat decay.

When a certain amount is set, it means the "product" is gathered from that area until the set amount is reached. As soon as your amount of items drops below that set amount, a worker will head to that area again to gather resources.

i.e.: if you have set stone at 10 items, a (group of) worker(s) will move to the area to collect 10 stone and drop them off at a rock pile until you have 10 stone.
As soon as you use 4 stone to build two mortars, workers will head to the stone area and collect 4 stone to bring your stockpiled amount to 10 again.

As for amounts, for some you would like fixed numbers, while for others percentages or infinite is a better option.

For food, raw skins, and bones I keep using the default infinite settings
For logs, leather, dry skins, sticks, stones and flint I set numbers to what I may need.
Weapons, tools and clothing are set to a percentage of the population; with clothing being 125% to make sure new citizens always have clothing when they arrive.

For animals I use 10 of each as a setting, as that means each kind of animal got their own stable while all those which won't fit in the stable are slaughtered for meat and raw skins.

Hope this helps!

Thanks....I'm loving this game but having problems understanding certain things. That does help and I appreciate the info. I read that bones are only used to make the bone spears and the totems on a youtube video and so most ot the time they are not being used and just keep stockpiling in your inventory. The author discovered that if you make bone spears with one wood and one bone, you can get more when the trader comes. I found that helpful. You really can't control what your people pick up after they kill something so they bring all the stuff back whether you need the bones or not.
