I finished this achievement last night and I don't think it's possible to do it without buying as much tech as possible.
I finished it in 2:54 But I already has all other achievments except 200 people (it is too dull to wait until they migrate/born) and finished all scenarios so I can say that I know some "cheats and hints".
And I agree with previous post - I don't think that you may get it without bying techs and on the normal speed.
Yes I asked the same “time” question on this regard before. What is the standard speed for this achievement? Or it will only follow your time/hours seated and playing regardless of speed?! If there is a standard say x2 speed and below or above it has a multiplier effect then its fine. As well as the game can be saved and continued afterwards.
It’s really hard to play under time pressure.

And I can't say that it was really race agains time. Yes, I was in a hurry but all my other games takes 7-9 hours where last 3 of them I was just sitting doing nothing and wait untill pop count reached needed number.
So this achievment can be done in usuall game, but not without buing techs and slow speed.
Thanks for the info. Makes less sense than ever now though.
Someone has posted they got the achievement last night, buying teck, and using 8x speed.
I'm totally convinced, it's not even remotely possible otherwise.
5 hours of gameplay gives you something like 3 years. There's just no way it can be done.
I created a scenario in which I start with 401 knowledge points and bought them all within seconds of starting the game.
The style of play necessary to achieve this is entirely not fun to me.
I was more curious if it would even work than anything else.
To be honest, it wasn't something I relished doing - but turns out, I did sort of enjoy it.
by the way the 5 hours is real time, so use x8 as much as possible
