Logs - exclusion from campfire and such
I think it would really be awesome to have an option to exclude logs from be burned in campfires.

The villagers still pick up the logs at first, no important how many sticks they have nearby the fires, if there is a log, they will burn it first.

Same for the pallisades, an option for priority settings would be great. While i understand that palissades, walls, and defense is important, we should have the choice to build them not still at first. Ever if you give priority to an other building, they mostly will stuck all logs first in the pallisades or other defensive buildings.

Or like said, they burn them happily to cook the food.
I have often to cut much more trees than needed because they manage bad the wood they have.

The burning of logs in campfires irks me too

If the devs were to change to sticks only I would be unhappy. Sticks are great for starting a fire but not good for maintaining it. If the devs were to make it player's choice I would have no problem.

This.

What I would want to see instead is charcoal as a fuel source.

I'm talking like still as an option, like for the storage, so you can exclude them if you wish. Choice is still fine.

As far as I know, villagers use sticks to make fire before they can cut logs or when they don't have logs.
Incidentally, the "low fuel" warning only comes when there are no sticks or logs.
Today, it is not possible to prohibit them from using logs, but this is a fair option and should be implemented.
On the other hand, considering the cost of producing charcoal, using it to bake bread is wasteful.

do logs count as more fuel than sticks?
Nakia May 29, 2019 @ 10:12pm
If I recall correctly 4 sticks = 1 log.

historically charcoal was used only in metallurgy afaik, as metal smeting required very high temperatures not attainable with firewood.

charcoal gives 2x more heat energy per kg than firewood (30 MJ vs 15 MJ) but because with a primitive technology you have to burn 5-7 kg of dried wood to make 1 kg of charcoal, using it for anything where firewood can be used would be a huge waste of resources and labor.

According to the ingame info provided by the devs yes logs are more efficient than sticks. Based on real life experience yes logs are more efficient than twigs or sticks.

The discusssion for me is not the efficiency here.
Like said, 1 log are 4 sticks, but that's not the discusssion. Once more, i'm asking for an option to exclude simply the log, giving so the choice to the player, depending when in the game to use or sticks or logs, or all two like now.

Caracoal would be nice as idea for melting metal, but not for campfire again, this wouldn't make sens.

Simply a menu like in the storage huts to exclude material, that's all i'm asking for. OPTIONS !

I agree with you.
Wood log resources are scarce, because even if the trees regrow (very slowly) we must be able to block consumption to make a fire.
I even tried to make a bunch of (exclusive) logs very far from the camp ... and well the villagers prefer to make the trip.
General Malaise Apr 16, 2020 @ 10:37am
If they chop down one tree, that usually gives 4 logs and 4 sticks. Surely that's more efficient than fetching 20 sticks? If it is, then it's better to let them burn logs.

TURNING OFF FUELING when no one is using is one thing that could reduce logs and sticks consumption. Vanilla scenarios are not a problem but modded and extreme difficulty games are really a struggle with sticks and logs. This could be applicable to huts, roundhouses and ovens too!

Charcoal will just improve the decay rate but it does not really make a difference as you will still use logs to make it.

I don't currently play this game lot, but i remember at early game, the logs are hard to get depending your party, and the traders coming by.
Giving players a option to disable burning logs would just be a nice option.

Discussion here was never the efficiency of logs vs sticks, just was asking for a life quality option. Options are still the way to go, this in all games i played. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
