Plans to go past Iron Age?
I really want to play a game that goes from early civilization stuff up to future tech stuff thats more SP RTS like Dawn of Man. So how far do the devs plan on taking the tech tree does anyone know?

The game is called dawn of man, so iron age finish is logical. maybe they'll also make morning of man in the future, about the classic antiquity, but it'll require changes in gameplay as there were no independent settlements anymore.

There's hundreds of games that do exactly that. I'd rather see greater attention to detail in the paleolithic through neolithic eras.

after you say it all, I have nothing left to say ... except that DoM needs cats.

(Did you really think I'd stop?) :steamhappy:

It's called "Empire Earth."

@Richon,
There are cats in Empire Earth?

Please no !
I chosed this game especially for this early eras. Few games if ever cover this early periods, but there are lot more covering the iron age, with fortifications, armies and all such.
Some are pretty good, so you have just the choice to pick them.

I would love see the first eras more treated in depht, with more content and possibilities.
More cultural structures, more variations for buildings, clothing. But also some jewellery and decoration.
Religions or believes should also have a good place. A shaman, sorcerer or such, with a given hut, and some activity would also be nice to see.

This game is really fun and interesting because it keeps its focus on the rise of civilization and ancient history. I suppose if you really wanna feel like going into the future in the same universe then maybe you could get both this and Planetbase and just pretend your space colony is the eventual accomplishment of your people's advancement. You can really simulate the vast advancements in a simulation of a single village.

The game is centered around some Celtic tribe, and the fact that it ends in the Iron Age makes sense, as I believe that is around the time when the Roman Empire started f:fcp_badger:cking with those people a lot. Meaning that your village is doomed to being conquered no matter what you did during gameplay, according to history. So you can't really go further into history unless you completely change the game into grand strategy or something, which at that point you could just be playing one of those games.

Just wanted to point out that the Celts were a bronze age culture. Just because central Europe (the Romans) had reached the Iron Age, doesn't mean that northern Europe (the Celts) had experienced the same cultural advancement. The mismatch in technology and political structure was a defining characteristic in Caesar's conquest of Gaul and Britain.

i would love to see the game extended

From 800 BC onwards, the celts and most of central europe are considered an iron age culture, 500 BC onwards northern europe followed. Political structures are not considered defining characteristics in this regard, but rather the mass production and usage of iron tools and weapons, which the celts and germanic people indeed had (Hallstatt and La Tène cultures).

Well that's a pretty big blunder on my part. lol Not sure where i made the bronze age connection. I wasn't saying that politics had anything to do with the iron age, but that the political structure of the Celts in Gaul and Britain was one of the primary factors in Caesar's conquest.

I guess I probably shouldn't get on here when I'm drunk. lol

Let's not forget that the Celts messed with the Romans first. Nobody remembers Brennus???
I'm also against expanding past Iron Age. If it were up to me last phase would be bronze. Maybe even neolithic.

True. Brennus is the reason we lack earlier records of Rome. A lot of these "what's history and what's myth" questions could be answered if we still had the documents from Rome's first centuries.

That's fine, it can happen. I guess connections like that come also because we often associate and regard high cultural civilizations like Rome, Greece, China, all the Mesopotamian cultures, etc, differently from low culture civilizations like Gauls (although, it should be mentioned, the Gauls where on their way towards a high culture when Rome conquered them), the germanic tribes and others.

If someone for example says "Bronze Age", Greece would automatically come to my mind, while "Copper Age" brings up an association with Mesopotamia and Egypt. Probably because many games (and other media) foster that association.
