Pros and cons of the game? (Worth/Not)?
I'm thinking about buying, but I don't know much about this game. Can people who own it tell me why do you think the game is good or why it isn't?

I think the first question is; do you like games like this in general? Do you have any games in the genre you like? So we could compare them to what you like and tell you what's different.

The problem is the game is still in beta I think, so it still has broken features and other issues.

Ofc I like. From Cities skylines to stronghold, from sandboxes like black and white 2 to CK2. This is how I got here. The question is: What does the game offers? What do you feel? Why do you like or dislike the game? The reviews weren't enough for me to decide yet.

How's the game's early mid and late game? Do the main features feel missing? What do you feel the game lacks the most? What hurts the gameplay or enjoyment?

Talk about the game as it exists today. :lunar2019smilingpig:

First you have to like management games (here the management of a village), and forget the war games (just a defense against raiders).

You have to like the historical period (or periods). Paleolithic, Neolithic, ... until the beginning of the ancient period (Celts).

There are also the visual sides of the game, "details" and "natural": forest, animals ... dwellings, menhirs ...

But the game is constantly improving. The DEVs work a lot and they develop their game seriously.

That's what I think.

Have a good day ! :wolf_paw:

Some haters of the game might call me a fan boy but I don’t think I am. I had 1.5k hours already and still loving it regardless of what others say negatively.

I had 1k hours on stronghold as well as 1k on Civ 5. 3k hours on Rise of nations and played 0ad until DoM came. Played less than 1 hour of banished.

Bad reviews don’t make sense to me because imo most of them wants to play fast game and would not like micromanagement in early stage.

Truly AI has some issues to others but those don’t stall you to get through to finish the game, even in the hardest difficulty and on the hardest modded game!

Achievements no matter how hard or challenging or interesting or not can be done with ease. Some grinding but not really a PITA if you like this type of game.

If the devs make corrections on the so called bad AI behavior the game might just become too easy even on hardcore.

What I don’t like right now is the “tower defense” type of combat. With this setup I can’t make my best looking settlement at all because the fortifications are littered with towers (brittle towers).

Another thing is that the tents, huts and roundhouses have no filters that imo makes the welfare of the villagers harder.

Logs are problematic in the late game if your population goes beyond 300 and with heavy raiders (I play the EverWinter mod that can have increasing number of raiders, I had a one time 141 raiders at 500+ population) and much needed for structures maintenance.

I’m a single player type of gamer and I have lots of playing time. And this game is quite relaxing to play.

This is a wonderfully detailed but fairly intuitive game. It's not an APM frenzy, or one with 5000 things to keep track of, and while it's a little slow, it's more on the relaxingly sedate level than stressfully tedious...

If you played Age of Empires, and liked the first few moments where your stone age tribesmen would throw a spear at a gazelle, hack off a steak, and carry it back to your village... then you'll likely like this.

You want action? High speed tension? Multiplayer competition? Stirring storylines?
Not this game....

If you want SimCity -5000BC.... this will do nicely... :)
I've played a fair amount of time of planetbase on a friend's account, but it was too frustrating after a point. I could never get properly to late game AI was also bothersome hence why I didn't bought it on my acc. But I'm really interested in this game. Totally on the fence about buying...

I love single player experiences and I am looking for a chilling one. DoM looks like that game, specially with the evolution touch. I think I'm going to watch some videos. 1.5k hours seems like a solid time. Others have a fair amount of time for a beta. Will watching some videos hurt my experience with the game? Should I avoid "spoilers"?

I bought the game after watching many videos. I think it's a good way to discover a game of this type. For the "spoiler", there are no big mysteries to reveal. Everything is visible in the game from the start.

Have a good day ! :wolf_paw:

If you watch my “rookie” video (PC Gamer_buds), it’s how I managed to achieve any difficulty level of any DoM game. I have Northlands hardcore up to Neolithic and just coasting relax strategy. I made the video to help or show that the game is not difficult at all; not for monetary reason. Though I have plenty of time to do it and some are lasting more than hour but I think there are techniques that you can get.

I just don’t have privacy to continue on making DoM videos because of the noise but one day if I have a chance I will continue doing so.

Most videos you can watch from Youtubers are not really skillful imo, though my skill on doing games are not really excellent.

I don’t play normal difficulty anymore as I’m bothered by the primal vision pause.

Also if you can check my profile it has lots of screenshots but my style of settlement is more green. I don’t like to chop down tree near my central settlement and don’t like any pretty arrange and lined up structures.

In short I don’t like gulag type of settlement that’s why the difficulty is much more.

Like this a little bit boring between 120-130s raiders.

Or a relax Northlands hardcore settlement (around 35 raiders).

Tbh I don’t care if you want to buy the game. For me it’s the best of this genre and I like games up to before gunpowder age.

Or maybe someday when the mod author release this workshop scenario, you can have 300+ dog army. Martino might curtail it but i want to have 350 dogs in my settlement, my highest was 340 dogs tamed.

Sorry to flood your thread but it’s nice to make a settlement and take a screenshot during early summer when all the vegetables are about to be harvested while the grains start to blossom. At 400 + population expect the raiders (130s) to be disrupting soon.

No man. Some moderators like to keep it clean, but if none complain I see no grip with your replies.

I ended up buying. Didn't play it tho as I'm still at work. As for the difficulty, I'm not buying the game because of the challenge. I'm looking for a relaxing game I can play and watch situations unfold and the people develop. I've watched little to no videos, just enough to get to know the mechanics and interactions. I don't want to spoil much.

It seems worth the money, judging by reviews, what u guys said and what I have watched. Doesn't seem as fun or lasting as kenshi but by God I just don't have the energy to play kenshi on workdays.

Also the only 2 games I was actually looking for to buy beside this one are cyberpunk and slime rancher, so there was not much else that had my attention. Oh and rimworld, but that one looks way demanding.
