How do you turn on speedrun mode?

I highlighted a save file and pressed every button on my controller, but speedrun mode does not turn on. Help is appreciated.

When on the file select screen, when you haven't selected a save file slot (or copy/delete modes), tap up or down until you highlight the speedrun mode toggle. Press the "accept" button here to toggle it on/off.

Of course, this assumes that you have a cleared save file on record, or use a cheat code to unlock the toggle. The cheat code is (input this on the file select screen):
Left, Left, Right, Right, Left, Right, Up, Down, Burst
