SU-PURR-ISE!

Cat’s outta the bag ~ the third Cat Lady content update is here and ready for your enjoyment! It’s the Fantastical Feline Update, which means there are some new cats for you to wield as you unravel the mystery of Grandma’s haunted mansion.

In addition to all of the new content and fixes you’ll find in the game with this update, there’s also our final survey and GIVEAWAY! Yes: free things! This giveaway is a doozy: a hefty pack filled with swag from Cat Lady in addition to DVDs, books, and manga from VIZ Media. But, now for the meow-ment you’ve all been waiting for: update notes!

💾 To make room for all the new kitties, rewards, power-ups, and challenges, we had to clear save data. Just to be sure everything’s ship-shape, please clear save data manually when you start the game (found in Options on the title screen). If you happen to encounter any bugs, please let us know either via our Discord[discord.gg], in the Steam Community forums, or by emailing us at hello@rosecitygames.com, and we’ll help as soon as we can.

😻6 new cats! Both primary and secondary cats have been added ~ we’ve got Pebbles, Orbit, Stuffumz, Octavia, Mr. Mews, and Orbit. My personal fave? Pebbles, the lil planter kitty. But you should try them all for yourself before you decide!

🗣 Language support for English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Play in your native tongue or practice with a new language!

📱 Challenge menu added. Keep track of all the things in your handy dandy phone!

🥇Challenge rewards added and updated. What’s better than achieving a goal? Getting a reward for achieving a goal! Certain challenges will unlock new power-ups and cats in the shop.

🎶Updated SFX! We’ve balanced some volume, cleaned up some beeps, boops, and mews… (Also, if you haven’t caught our devlog featuring Matt, our sound designer, be sure to watch it here).

❄ Cleaned up the holiday decor! It’s almost February, so we gotta get that stuff outta here!

🖼 Updated cat portraits in the hub shop. They’re feline especially fancy.

🐛 Minor bug fixes! We’ve caught a few little things like bouncing teddy heads, duplicate item notifications in the shop, minor spelling errors, and Scrappy pushing pipes around.

We’ve been revealing cats throughout January, and there’s one more we just had to show you all before the next update.

Meet Stuffumz! One of Ally’s favorite childhood toys and former playmate of King Teddy. When she gains sentience, Stuffumz is surprised and confused as to why the house is attacking Ally and Grandma; but if she knows anything, it’s that she always won against King Teddy in play fights!

Also, before we get into the progress we’ve made on the game specifically … 🎧 Beep boop beep! A VERY special devlog is out now on our Youtube channel with Matt, our sound designer.

In this video, he shares a bit about what it’s like to give the cats and ghosties of Cat Lady a voice and his favorite sounds in the game. PLUS you get a fun behind-the-scenes moment of him with Will (Rose City co-founder and in-house VOICE ACTOR) recording some sounds you’ll be hearing in the future!

And now ~ to the rest of the update!

🎮 Continued finalizing challenges ~ In addition to the last touches to that phone UI, we’ve now got challenges for all current areas of the mansion: Basement, Boiler Room, Courtyard, and Freezer!

✏️ Last week, we shared all about adding localization for four additional languages. This week, we took time and make sure special characters in the font looked extra snazzy!

🐱 Secondary cats kept getting distracted and not following Ally. We fixed that up (Ally’s got kitty snacks in her pockets now!) so they’ll keep a bit closer!

🐾 Fixed up the shading of the secret paw prints (they’ll blend in a bit more… so keep an eye out for these surprises!)

🍙 Rice balls in the freezer were qualifying as teddies when achievements were tracking. While we think those rice balls are cute, they’re not quite teddies! We fixed that right up!

🐻 Lazy Teddies and bananas in the fridge were truly living up to their name and not moving around at all. We gave ‘em a little bit of spark, and they’ll now keep you on your toes.

🔥 Litlogs were leaving their attack shapes on the ground after being defeated. We think we got this one, but please let us know if you catch it!

More cats are joining the fray in the next update of Cat Lady, and while we...OOP:

Looks like lil Pebbles decided to make her appearance known!

This adorable kitty is a bit of a scaredy-cat and often finds herself competing with Roscoe for a hiding place. Lately, Pebbles has found a perfectly protective pot to hide her spotted self in. When she is uncovered, she is commonly found investigating the garden, also often running away from the tiniest bugs, falling flower petals, or dandelion shadows. She doesn’t attack ghosts or fight creatures directly, but fortunately, the mud splatters from her dive back into the safety of her favorite spot dole out punishment for any unfriendly creature that gets too close.

This week has been focused on sprucing up a lot of details and bugs in various areas of the game that we’ve already been working on. Here’s a tidy little list to let you know some of those things (and to let us celebrate what we’ve done this week! These updates are fun for us too, you know!)

🎶 New SFX (and we started working on a devlog featuring our awesome sound designer, Matt! Look out for that next week!)

💪 Busts could push you through the walls...and while it was fun imitating the Kool-Aid guy, they won’t push you anymore.

✨We got more than a few reports noticing that after purchasing power-ups, sometimes the cats would get stuck while flashing. We wanted to make sure you could enjoy their adorable faces, so we fixed that right up.

✅ Finished translations for challenges! Five languages mean five times fun! (Well, sort of.) Anyone think they could play and understand the dialogue in all five languages?

🔊 And, while this didn’t necessarily happen yet, this weekend we’ll be recording some VO for enemies, bosses, and cats! M E O W ! While not all of this may make it in by the next content pack, we’re excited to start playing with some new sounds and getting them into the game!

This week was pretty heads down since we spent the majority of our time adding more new cats to the roster.

When we create cats, we generally have a good idea in mind of what we’d like their personalities and attack style to be like, but it still takes time to create the artwork, animation, and (of course) time to test them in the mansion itself. While we’ve got more cats we aren’t quite ready to share, this week, we have a special new buddy to introduce to you. A cat who, perhaps, could be helpful to Grandma and Ally in cleaning up the mansion of clutter AND ghosties.

😼 Meet: Octavia aka ROOMBA CAT!!

As she cruises into battle on her valiant steed, she'll clean up any ghosts, poltergeists, rats, and spooky spirits getting in your way!

In addition to adding this new feline friend, we’ve got a few more exciting pieces of news to share:

💌 Boop boop! You’ve got 1 unread message! We’ve heard many of you ask about challenges and ways to keep track of the progress you’re making in the game. In our next content update, you’ll have Ally’s phone to help you keep specific track of how you’re doing in unlocking cats and power-ups (among a few other fun things). ;)

(Don’t worry, we haven’t cloned Ally in the process of implementing this new phone! This was our mock-up for the phone UI)

👋 Bonjour! Hola! Hallo! Ciao! Not only will you be able to play Cat Lady in English, but we’re going to be releasing Spanish, German, Italian, and French so you can share it with your friends all over the world (or practice saying cat puns in various languages!). We’re still working out our fonts and translating the very last bit of text, but it should all be ready for our third content update.

Even though this week is a bit short, we're already hard at work on both the feedback we've received over the holiday break about the Chilly Cheery Update as well as starting up on content for our third major update.

For those of you wondering what to expect with the third update, let's take a peek at our handy dandy r o a d m a p :

The only thing MY eyes gravitate to for January? MORE CATS. We're all very excited about all the other content we'll be adding (and bug fixes! and QOL tweaks!) but...more cats, amirite?

So, during this 2-day week, we focused on just that: getting a bevvy of new cats ready for you all. And (shhh): we've got a sneak peek at one here:

Meet Jazz Cat! We haven't figured out a name for this groovy kitty quite yet, but we do know he'll be a new secondary cat who plays irresistible tunes that chase enemies to damage 'em!

The Chilly Cheery Update has been out for 24 hours, and before we head out for the holidays, we wanted to send a little bit more cheer your way! We got some great immediate feedback (and bug discoveries!) that we wanted to make sure to patch up.

Here’s one last Friday update before we go on break for Cat Lady’s Chilly Cheery Update (v0.5.1):

FIXES

• You all helped us discover that there weren’t functioning shops in the Freezer ~ which can be a fun challenge if you’d like to try a no power-up run… but not so fun if you wanna play with those fun synergies! We’ve fixed that up so you can snag those power-ups now.
  
• Where’s Grandma? A few of you also found that with a specific cat (Nelly), a certain early story beat broke. We’ve fixed it!
  
• Miscellaneous little room fixes! Lining things up, arranging boxes, dusting the corners. :)
  
• Line breaks and text were spruced up to make sure they didn’t extend too far out ~ getting to know the kitties will be even smoother to read!
  
• Dundundun, dun dun dun dundundun! Yup, that was an attempt to “sing” the victory song. But never fear: you don’t have to deal with my singing anymore because the victory song is back to celebrate the end of your run!
  
• While this wasn’t in the game, the link to the feedback form[www.rosecitygames.com] was locking folks out! We’ve updated those permissions (and all the links!) so you should be able to provide feedback (and get that free entry to win a prize.)

KNOWN ISSUES

• Occasionally, buying too quickly/ makes the kitties not blink and stay white until you re-visit the shop/go through a couple of rooms. We haven’t gotten the fix implemented for this quite yet, so for now, just think of it as special-edition, temporary ghost cats!
  
• Roscoe (and a few of the other secondary kitties) sometimes won’t follow you as you wander the rooms of the mansion ~ we’ll be fixing this up, but don’t worry: they’ll be there and ready for combat when needed!

We’ll be out of the office for a little bit to take a holiday break, but we’ll be back in the new year (and still checking in during the break, but just taking it a bit easier)! Thanks in advance for your patience if it takes us a little bit longer to respond to any questions that you post. :) Hope the rest of your 2019 is wonderful!

It’s that special time of year ~ snow is falling, wreaths are hanging… and ghosties are haunting? YUP! It’s the Chilly Cheery Update!

With our latest update being live, though, you don’t have to just wait and watch ~ you can jump in and play now on Steam! Below are some more detailed notes on what’s been finessed and added in during the Chilly Cheery Update:





- Grab your scarf! Grandma’s Freezer is C O L D ~ and it’s the newest area for you to explore!

- Delicious new enemies with interesting new battle techniques for you to claw at!

- A formidable new boss to take down

- New power-ups to make your cats extra buff!

- THE RETURN OF THE MEOW BUTTON! Spam away!

- Update attack art for the Foul Owl ~ she’s gettin’ fancy.

- Reminders from Tanner, a friendly new cat in the grand hall, about Aim Assist! Ain’t no shame in using auto-aim!

- We did it! With your help, we were able to figure out why bosses would sometimes decide to daydream instead of fight you properly ~ no more easy outs with the boss fights anymore! ;)

- Modified a few of the shop prices. Dum Dum’s gotta get that essence!

- Jackal’s hidden a few stashes of treats around the mansion… time to do some extra exploring!

- Added a few festive details to the main hall. Grandma would be proud of our decorating!

Tomorrow's the big day: our second major update will be going live! To whet your palette and get you ready for what's in store, our latest devlog is all about the Chilly Cheery Update.
