Enter ship from the nebula?

Having trouble with the Malus Cannon, and can't enter the ship to buy the upgrades I could presumably use to defeat it. Is there something super obvious I'm missing?

Before entering the Nebula, you can head down to the Weapons Bay to upgrade your ship. You can also exit the Nebula (by going back to the first screen and heading for where you came in) to head back to the ship and use whatever money you gained to upgrade your ship then. Hope that helps.
