Does anyone actually use the Toaster?
Just gotta ask, because to me it seem more like a gimmick weapon than anything else.. Sure it can penetrate enemies and shoot through windows, but it is slow and time consuming to use properly, which is a luxery that you don't really have late-game.

If it could penetrate Zec shields then I could see it having an important tactical role to play, but at the moment, not so much. So yeah, any thoughts on this bizarre weapon?

I've only used it once, when I had the negative trait that would swap out your prepared weapon for a random once 50% of the time. As you can guess, at one point it gave me the Toaster.

It wasn't a huge hindrance to use it, though I was using it against Juvies. It hits hard, harder than the rocket launcher equivalent (whose name I forget) I believe, but like you said it has to charge up. If you get the timing down, you can duck into cover, start to charge it, and then poke out with a second or less to go and take your shot. Enemies don't exactly dodge and weave, so it's easy enough to land the shot. It's also decent at taking out the turrets, but if you have the Zapper that would probably be better, depending on your distance.

In short: it's not as bad as it seems, with the right playstyle, but there are likely better options for you to use in its place.

I actually like it a lot in the deeper depths. It oneshots the watchers (the 2nd tier peeper) and the Friendly Tourists (who don't explode in one pistol hit). Being able to destroy turrets from the safety of the next room is great too. I've also gotten multi-kills through really long hallways so I can say I've used it for all of it's intended purposes. I still opt to use the poison or radiation spikes on pretty much anything else though.

yeah I wish it could go through zecs shields, but it can one shot a bunch of enemies from afar
I'm just glad to have any weapon with ammo tbh. But I find it makes things real easy when you can use it to fire through door windows. I can just lock a door and just headshot screws over and over and just clear out rooms.

That's exactly why I can't help to see it as a gimmick weapon in the first place. It might be fun to mess around with, but when it really matters there's always better choices that lets you push forward even faster.

I can see the fun in this, but again, it's not really a valid survival tactic on harder difficulties as you would sufficate to death long before the room is cleared. Not to mention it's a huge waste of ammunition.

It's not a bad weapon. I recon a charged shot will do about 150 points damage. It one-shots veteran scribes.

Really? I took it once to check out. The ship was loaded with screws and patients. It did 0 damage to both. So I thought it's a joke weapon for some high end spawn which dies of heat.

That must be with the second tier upgrade, yes? Because I seem to remember the basic Toaster having a flat (headshot?) damage of 72 or something like that.

Yeah you're right it must have been a headshot since the damage output indicator was yellow! But I don't think my Toaster is upgraded yet. I'll need to verify.

The accuracy is a huge plus, as most other straightforward 'point and shoot' weapons are very innacurate.
I use the Toaster situationally. If I'm going to a ship where there tend to be lots of windows in the tileset, I definitely bring the toaster. For example, the medical ships have full-windowed doors. Much easier to make situational use of the Toaster there and pick baddies off from behind a locked door, or take out Peepers from a mile away.

I use it to replace the Regulator later in the game. It's the only primary besides the Nebulator that has perfect accuracy, so it's the only gun that can reliably snipe things like Watchers in big rooms. It also lets me snipe out Gunpoints placed at the ends of long hallways, Gunpoints through windows, Gunpoints in supply van rooms... security, basically. The piercing is useful against Janitors and Scribes sometimes, too.

lol, using it in the exact worst situations for that gun. Screws already take a lot of work to kill and you'll fun out of ammo for sure before it dies and the only thing that works (efficiently) on patients are explosives and rad-spikes.

I feel the Riveter works really well against Patients as well.

Riveter doesn't really do much else besides kill Patients.

Good to know it doesn't go through shields... I assumed that was the entire point of the gun (to hard counter shield lady).

This saved me an awkward (and potentially deadly) learning experience.
