(Kinda sounds like Hugo and Fubar in Suikoden 3. They can be separate, but can be grouped together and fight as one (with a lot greater power))
-----
Transformation is basically a temporary class change (though you can set how long it lasts, even indefinitely).
Fusion is a Rescue mechanic (causing one unit to combine with another).
The rescued unit cannot take any actions while in this state, but also cannot be targeted or interacted with by anyone other than their rescuer. (Until they are either released (Drop) by the rescuer, or the rescuer is killed/defeated).
You may be able to make it work by using both mechanics, but I don't know how it'd work precisely.
------
Maybe something like (Steed uses transform and transforms into a Beast Rider)?
The real trick would be setting a condition to be something like: "If (rider) is in Fusion with (steed)".
Such a condition would be needed to limit when the transformation can happen (otherwise, the steed could transform independent of the rider's location).
If you can set it so the rider is "rescued" by their steed, then the Transform could be allowed. That might work.
But I've never tried it myself.
----
Going into Database > Config > Fusion Settings, below Rescue and Capture, I created a new Fusion called Mount.
(You can set the terms/wording however you want)
From there, in the Details tab, you can specify a Transformation.
I think you can set the Source Condition and Target Condtion to be the two units in question.
(You can also specify any stat changes you wish to add while they're combined)
(It goes without saying, but you'll first have to go into Database > Config> Transformation and actually create the desired mounted class they'll turn into when combined.)
---
Afterwards, you need to create a skill for it. You set the Skill Type as Fusion, and in the "Skill Effects" select the "mount" Fusion you created.
And make sure to give the unit(s) the skill.
----
From my testing... it seemed to work. When the unit "mounted" (rescued) the other, they became one unit and instantly transformed into the new class.
And on the next turn, when he "dismounted" (dropped) his passenger, he instantly transformed back,, and you're left with two units in their original classes.
Looks like that'll do it, if that was what you were aiming for.
And the Mounted version can rescue herself, or the horse, but not split up themselves?
I've got...something working.
To reiterate for my own clarity,
I would like to have a Cavalier unit that can split into a Lord unit and a Horse unit.
I would also like to have the Lord and Horse be able to re-merge into the Cavalier.
This involves giving an optional Skill Command that invokes a Transformation. What are the settings for the transformation though? I don't seem to be able to get the Fusion to work the way I want it to.
I believe this essentially requires three different "players," but I only seem to be able to get one of them to go into the same space.
As an example, let's use two units: a female Lancer, and a chicken (chick).
My goals is to have them become a female Beast Tamer when combined.
-----
In the Database > Config > Transformation, I would create a Female Beast Rider transformation.
Then, in Database > Config > Fusion Settings, I make a new Fusion.
(In it's details tab, in the "skills and transformation" I double-click and in the menu that pops up I select "Transform" and pick the Female Beast Rider I made)
(Then right above it, in the box Destination Source, I select the two units that will combine. (This will make it so either one can trigger the merge.)
After that, in Database > Skills, I create a new skill, and in its skill effects, select Fusion.
Right below that, in the box "skill effects", I set the Fusion I made.
Then simply gave both units this new skill.
-------
You'll only need the two units, as one will transform into the new class.
So, in my example, if my female lancer walks up to the chick and selects "Mount", the chick will vanish into the Lancer, and the Lancer will then instantly become a Female Beast Rider.
She will stay that way for the rest of the chapter, or until she selects "Dismount".
She'll then release the chick back onto the map, and will instantly change back into a female Lancer.
However, I'm still seeing the Option to Mount *while* they're fused. How do I remove that?
That..makes it a bit more complicated. As I don't think you can access those parts of the Config while in the demo.
Sorry about that.
I'll admit, I'm not sure how that came about.
Normally, the rules say a unit can only carry one other unit (whether by rescuing, capturing, or our little mounting trick).
So, I'm not quite sure how you're getting that option.
Normally, when fused, the "Mount" command will change to the releasing option (which we named "Dismount")
-----
Unless you accidentally named both the catch and release commands "Mount"?
(In the Database > Fusion Settings, in the mounting fusion we made, there you get to change the terms for "catch", "release", and "trade". Are those set right?
(I personally have them as "Mount", "Dismount", and "Trade"))

Edit: Aha! I found it! The option for a command under Transform Data was checked off!
Oversharing always works.
(Also, you don't really need to specify the Source Condition. The source will always be whoever selects Mount.
(I think the option is there to allow you to make extra stuff happen if it's a specific character that rescues/mounts).
Only the Destination Condition matters, as that basically says who you can mount.)
Also, the Filter can just be set to Player (unless you plan to add an option to mount an ally NPC character?)
