SFD won't launch
Every time I try to launch SFD from Steam I just get an error screen with the following text:

error 126 indicate load dependecy failure from the steam_api.dll or similar.
Without being able to replicate it try the following:
Verify file integrity for Superfighters Deluxe.
Try to restart your computer if you just installed Superfighters Deluxe.
Make sure Steam is up-to-date (and Windows).
If it still fails you may have to reinstall Steam (I understand if you don't want to do that).

Thanks Gurt, appreciate you sticking around to look at issues like this when I'm sure you'd rather be off celebrating the launch.

Unfortunately, I've tried all those steps and the error still persists. I'm at a bit of a loss... :steamsad:

Sigh. Still no luck. I have tried:

- Verifying integrity of game files
- Uninstalling and reinstalling both Steam and SFD multiple times (even to different directories and drives). Restarting my machine between each reinstall.
- Updating Windows
- Running Steam/SFD as administrator
- Deleting the offending file (steam_api.dll). Of course doing that prevents the game from running with a different error (file not found). If I then verify integrity the file is retrieved but guess what? Won't load
- I even tried stealing the steam_api.dll from a different game directory, but of course that just threw up a mismatch error

I *can* run a dedicated server and preview it - which gives me a tiny view into the game, but that just makes it more frustrating that the main app won't load!

Is anyone else having this problem and is there anything else I can do to fix it? Or am I just going to have to ask for a refund and resign myself to never playing SFD again?

HELP!

Without some deeper troubleshooting and maybe even reinstalling windows, it should just work on Windows 8 32 bit systems. You can check your windows log files after load errors related to launching the game and see if it can give you a hint to what might be the cause. A driver that's out of date or something. This is just one of the first links that pops up in my search engine: https://www.howtoguides.org/event-viewer-check-windows-8-logs-to-analyze-errors-system-problems-and-events

Some have solved "LoadLibrary error: 126" in other games by verifying driver installations or even reinstalling drivers. But I don't know the exact nature of your specific 126 error.

Just reinstall steam like me! don't worry I haved the same probleme :)

Thanks for your reply Mobsi, but if you read up you will already see that I have tried that several times unsuccessfully :(

Gurt, thanks for keeping in touch on this. I've tried event viewer and it appears to be logging two errors. The first reads:

Error: Failed to add firewall exception for C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe

I've tried adding exceptions for all Steam and SFD entries in my firewall (Comodo) and in Windows Defender (even though I don't use WD, but just wanted to cover all bases). I've even tried disabling both Comodo and WD for a very brief period, but nothing helps.

This is so frustrating, I just want to play the game! :(

Oh, I almost forgot the second error in the log. This has a time stamp 14 seconds after the firewall exception message and is a bit longer:

OK, I've just noticed something. The Event Viewer log says:

Error: Failed to add firewall exception for C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64\steamwebhelper.exe

But there's actually no such directory. My steamwebhelper.exe file is in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7

Could that be what's causing the problem?

I also have the same problem. The crash report says this:

A crash report has been generated.
If you see this error often, make sure your game is up-to-date, started correctly and all files are intact.

Do you want to send the crash report?
Ovolanche Dec 1, 2018 @ 10:29pm
Nevermind, I fixed this by getting the XNA framework and reinstalling the game.
Gurt  [developer] Dec 2, 2018 @ 1:16am
Can you repeat that error log:
Faulting application name: wmiprvse.exe, version: 10.0.17134.1, time stamp: 0x53519375
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.17134.376, time stamp: 0x60d78cf9
If you get it each time you try to boot SFD then it's probably related in some way.

A search for "ntdll.dll" gives vague troubleshooting tips ranging from updating your drivers to doing mem-tests and repairing windows (if this is the root-cause).

You might also have faulty registry entries pointing to files that no longer exist or files that have been moved. Reinstalling programs might not remove these programs. I use CCleaner from time to time to clear my windows registry but I can't recommend it unless you know what you're doing. Take a backup of your registery if you're unsure.

I have no idea if any of the above will help with your specific problem. You might want to wait until we release SFD on another digital distribution platform in the future (which won't bundle the steam_api which seem to be your problem here).
BennyG Dec 2, 2018 @ 10:25am
You know what, I can't repeat it and it seems now to have gone which is odd. Perhaps linked to something else?

However, I have spotted an error in the "Administrative Events" menu of the Event Viewer which crops up *every* time I try to run SFD. That error reads as follows:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
and APPID
{9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
to the user BEN-PC\Ben SID (S-1-5-21-2128926463-780726600-3210322902-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Event ID: 10016

I've searched the error code and found loads of info on how to change the DCOM security permissions from DCOMCNFG, such as this:

https://shauncassells.wordpress.com/2015/09/28/windows-10-event-10016-fix-the-application-specific-permission-settings-do-not-grant-local-activation-permission-for-the-com-server-application-with-clsid-d63b10c5-bb46-4990-a94f-e40b9d520160-and-a/

Managed to follow all those directions to the letter and.......the error still persists.

I'm beyond annoyed. Ready to junk Steam completely and never come back to it. Any idea when you might be ready to release SFD on another platform?
Gurt  [developer] Dec 2, 2018 @ 10:41am
We have no plan right now when SFD will show up on another platform. It depends on how much time we manage to spend working on this game, what we want to prioritize and what's next. It won't be this year that we know.
BennyG Dec 2, 2018 @ 2:17pm
Thanks for all your help Gurt.

Planning to do a fresh Windows 10 install over Christmas, so I'll give it another go then...
4r2r Jul 7, 2019 @ 3:01am
Did you manage to fix the problem? I have a similar one:

Make sure your game is up-to-date, started correctly and all files are intact. LoadDLL failed. > Exception: LoadLibrary error: 126 for C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Superfighters Deluxe\steamapi\x86\steam_api.dll > StackTrace: > FullException: System.Exception: LoadLibrary error: 126 for C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Superfighters Deluxe\steamapi\x86\steam_api.dll Additional data arch:x86, archWOW:AMD64 OS:Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0

Tried: reinstalling the game, steam, restarting pc, installing XNA, Dx9, verifying files integrity, running as admin.
