Game is "finished". "Dead" is used for abandoned games, this game wasn't abandoned as far as I am aware. Yeah some devs continue to work on free updates for years afterwards, thing is that costs money. That usually only happens for games that were wild successes and can afford to work on a game with little guaranteed return.

Not fully "finished" as I am aware. Look at squirrel abilities "tree swing - can swing from tree to tree (WIP)" Work in progress.... Oh man, and squirrel still cannot swing from tree to tree, just jump on tree and that's it.

To OP, I can't say it's dead cause It's not an online game that required server to run, just called it finished and fully playable but abandon and no further development and contents to be add.

Old topic, but honestly I'm worried about the state they left the game in. Finished or not content-wise, the game has memory leak and slowdown problems with long-term play sessions and late-game, respectively. These have not been fixed, and are solely what keeps me from coming back to the game, because I hate to progress only for the game to slow and repeatedly delete entire species populations from my ecosystems.

The creator has moved onto a new project but that doesn't mean he might not come back to fix some outlying issues afterward.

He's been in and out with illness for the past two years, even before Equillinox was finished, so game development as a whole has been knocked down to a crawl even on his new project. It's also probably why he wasn't quite able to do everything he wanted to do with some animals in Equillinox either.

I like this game quite a lot. Unfortunately the slowdown/stutter/memory leak just makes this unplayable for me.

Exactly. I've tried to come back and play this game again but the memory leak in particular is just extremely frustrating. I can't recommend this game to friends or play this as much as I'd honestly love to unless that's fixed.

I hate this attitude, "complete" is a much better sentiment; this person is right:

Oh if only we can return to the days without DLC, the days when a game was done when it was released. Thank god the Equilinox devs only released updates for the game.

By the way, did they ever fix that memory leak issue that the Steam reviews keep mentioning?

No. They haven't returned to the game at all.

November 23 2020; I didn't realize how old this thread actually was. This game is most certainly done. A shame about the memory leak thing, but I guess it's not that big an issue.

The Dev is making a whole new game now. Not sure if he is still a one man show or not, but who knows after he's done his new one, maybe come back and do some followups, few fixes, DLC.

I can no longer play due to an annoying issue where OpenAL library refuses to load if you have no sound device, instead of just playing without sound :(

That seems pretty typical for indie devs. They don't seem to do DLCs that often, which is pretty good since they don't nickle and dime you like most AAA games do. Totally agree with you on the fixes though. What's his new game by the way, what's it about?
