I would not say no to AI members as a generally solo-y person, either. But at the same time I knew what I was getting myself into for this one. I don't think the potential merc ideas would gel with your desire, either.

What you wrote was hurtful, and I hope the illustration above helps you understand why. I was sharing my personal experience with this game for the past few days while you are making pure speculations about what is or is not possible in a game you haven't played.
It is possible to experience the entirety of the game solo. It is possible to leave a party mid dungeon by clicking on your portrait and selecting disband, no penalty to you or the party you leave. So you can have a life and step away at any point you need. That's what I've been doing and I haven't had anyone get upset at me yet.
I don't understand why you are so dismissive and certain that your viewpoint combined with zero actual in-game experience is the one pure truth, but I assure you, that is not the actual experience those of us playing the game are having. It is quite the opposite.
If you end up buying the game I'd love to group up and help you gain a few levels withou having to worry about leaving unexpectedly. If you don't pick up the game, completely understandable and I hope you find one that fits your expectations.
That said... it is possible to control the entire party with five copies of the game... who knows... maybe we'll add a full-party option in the future? But it would be for single player mode only. We have considered adding an idle option too, for single-player mode. But we definitely encourage grouping when playing online. The entire game is designed with multiplayer in mind.
Thanks for your feedback!
