Not gonna argue on what you just said, but at some point, you will have to realize the price for the game was too high. It ruined the player base at the begining. Add to that having to wait several minutes to find a steady party in the lvl 30's + is truly a pain. All of this and also the lack of content. Ok you got to lvl 50, what next?
Take your 80 enjoyed hours and move to a new game. The current game has no depth, stemming from boring itemization and minimal combat decisions. Why are you shocked that few of us would stick around for this. Give it a year or two to receive updates/polish, and then return if the population does too.
Being a passion project, I doubt the game gets abandoned. You're just going to have to wait long periods (patience) for substantial updates.
Thats why alts, I have yet to have trouble finding groups. Sometimes it takes a bit or you have to grab some one to run normals with but thats all games. If you do /who you will see there are usually 50 to 70 people on and most of them are in a group running a dungeon. So not sure what to tell you but if you log into your level 50 and no one is grouping at the moment, switch to an alt you will find a group. You will see 2 50s in town but 12 lvl 21 to 33. There is your group if you start one. another thing i have seen a lot, is there are plenty of people on to make a group but no one wants to be the leader so no invites go out. Change your tactics and be the one to invite people. Or if ultimately you just arent having fun, play another game. Other than that dont know what to tell ya, I am having fun and I have no issues waiting 15 minutes to put together a group. This I think goes back to instant gratification, no one will wait anymore. Back when us dinosaurs started EQ you would sit at a zone line waiting 3 hours for a spot to open up in a group you asked to be put on the waiting list after your camp check. Maybe this game is more for patient people not todays mmo players.
It's a niche game, and it's early access. I am surprised it has as many people playing as it does. I love the game so far, and I think the $20 price point is pretty reasonable considering there isn't a cash shop or a subscription fee. That's my opinion on things at least.
Yeah people do that A LOT....and then complain about having nothing to do. I want to be clear NOT EVERYONE does that, but i see it a lot.
My personal "problem" is that I like min maxing, and I don't mind spending a good amount of hours doing so, but with the current 50 cap and 99 coming I don't want to spend hundreds of hours to get my guys pimped out only for the gear to becomes obsolete once lvl cap increases.
I lvled a Wizard and Rogue to 50 and made a few other low level guys, spent around 50ish hours on the game and although I'm not bored it's the lvl cap that's holding me back.
I think once the talents, lvl cap, more tiers of gear etc. are added more people will buy the game and people stay longer as there's plenty to do, especially if the max lvl takes a good while to reach.
Normally that's a burn out problem where people get tired of the game despite there being plenty to do. In NGO is there even any unique content at 50? It looks like it's just the same exact content but harder, so even people who don't get burnt out by the time they hit cap, have nothing worth sticking around for.
You've also got all the players leaving way before that because they realized that once you unlock all your abilities early on, you've pretty much experienced everything signficiant about the game.
Some truly unique gameplay elements at cap and/or some end game exclusive progression systems that significantly shake up classes would go a lot way to keeping end game players around and justifying new players time investment getting there.
I dont think its very helpful for improving the game to be so quick to dismiss its role in all the players leaving as just players burning themselves out.
Honestly thats the biggest problem with vertical progression. You put so much effort into gearing up and then it just gets made irrelevant on a whim. It really discourages putting to much time an effort into the game and really doesn't make much sense in a game like nevergrind that wants you to invest a ton of time in grinding for gear.
"Youre really going to have to work hard for your gear, but by the way all that work and gear will be made irrelevant from time to time" is a real slap in the face. There needs to be a way to enhance hard earned gear so that its viable at new level caps if it wants to make sure most players don't feel jilted by the arbitrary level cap raises.
