Lore
I just recently played and finished this game in one sitting, and I found it intriguing all the way through. This was one of those games that I put on and then off my wish list several times just because it visually looks amazing, but the gameplay seemed a bit imprecise, it was free on epic though, so I decided to give it a go and though the aiming is a bit tricky I found the game pretty forgiving and enjoyable. I kept playing because I was making progress easily and because the story, thought simple, seemed to go pretty deep and I felt as if there was a twist waiting for me towards the end. The whole time I felt as if I was doing something bad by turning the machine on and as if the creature was actually trying to warn me about something. Eventually I finished the game and no such thing happened, but it still hinted at it enough to make me feel like I was missing something. So, as it is often the case, I hoped on to youtube hoping to find some sort of lore explanation video and I found nothing, no youtube, no reddit threads and no discussion here on steam. So, I decided to start one If anyone has any clues or theories as to what the deeper meaning of this story is, I'm down to hear them out. The game hints at it way too many times for it not to be the case.

PS: As I was playing the game, I was also thinking about how great this game would be to speedrun yet I found no one with any decent attempts at it. I´m just baffled in general by how little attention was paid to this game. I get it's not for everyone and I guess the aiming could be frustrating for some, but still...

I think the creature is, or feeds on fear, doubt, and hopelessness.
I think its also a commentary on the technological solutions to ecological problems; the devs/story seem to believe that there can be a technological solution to ecological issues. Has an anti-luddite stance.

Yeah, this is mostly what I gathered from the ending as well, blue skies and all. But I still felt like the game was trying to make me sympathetic to the creature's cause. I might have read too much into its dialogue but it's also weird that Roger T. Frog has a couple of lines that makes us doubt his intentions. Especially at the end with the whole giant laser thing I was still holding out for the twist. Like, it's weird for the devs to show their "technology is the solution" stance with a giant laser shooting into the sky. But perhaps I'm just conditioned by recent media to think ill of all giant beams of light.
