Game Crashing when starting VR?
When I try to open the game in VR mode, or in normal mode with steamVR open, the game crashes on startup. I get the message:
The UE4-GalGun2 Game has crashed and will close

LowLevelFatalError

I am running the latest version of SteamVR and GalGun 2, using a Meta Quest 3.
I have already tried;
Restarting my computer
Restarting my headset
Reinstalling the game
Running on compatibility mode
Updating my drivers and computer in general
Opening Steam in Virtual Desktop
Setting the launch options to -dxlevel 81 and -force -dx11
Verifying the Game Files Integrity
Disabling game optimisation (it wasnt enabled to begin with)
Adjusting graphics settings in my control panel
and a few more things that I can't remember

My system info is:
Operating System: Windows 11 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 22621) (22621.ni_release.220506-1250)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)

I do not own the game but have you tried changing openXR runtime to SteamVR? Unreal Engine tries really hard to use oculus' runtime thingy it annoyed me so much in Phasmophobia and Tower Unite

I didn't know what this meant, so I googled how to do it. The guide seemed to be a year or two old and the UI was different in the SteamVR settings, though I think I found the right place, a tab called OpenXR?
When I tried, it said "Current OpenXR Runtime: SteamVR" and there's no other option? There's an option under "Manage OpenXR API layers" called "Compatibility layer for OculusXR Plugin" which was on, so I tried turning it off. I also tried turning "Meta Plugin Compatibility" to On. Neither of these worked. Is there something else I can do here?

If you have never been on those settings maybe try using Oculus' runtime?
For that go to the Oculus window, go to settings, general and set oculus as active

I had this exact issue. I resolved it by changing the OpenXR runtime and not using Steam to open the game.
If Oculus isn't an option for the OpenXR then try installing the Oculus app on your computer.

What did you use to open the game outside of steam? I tried it with virtual desktop and the oculus app, but the game wasn't really "VR", More of a static, floating screen... Even when I turned VR mode on from in game or opened it in VR mode from the launcher, it was the same thing.

Just to specify about changing openXR's runtime

Oculus:

SteamVR:

if its set to SteamVR, you might need have steamVR running before hand. And launch the game on steam.
To be sure always launch the game outside of oculus' library when trying to play with SteamVR.

And in my personal experience, do not use virtual desktop at all. I never used it, heard its outdated, I think and I managed everything I needed without it. It probably messes up with drivers idk there are so many people using it while having problems

I should have mentioned, I did manage to set openRX runtime to Oculus, but after launching the game in SteamVR (and double checking in SteamVR's settings, the runtime was still set to Oculus) it still crashed with the same error message.

have you tried this? https://steamcommunity.com/app/1369630/discussions/3/3052859736119380391/

also there was an Driver Release for your gpu that had crashing issues in some games for unreal engine games (at least for UE 5). I recommend using a more stable driver version if you haven't already

Okay, tried the fix in the link now, but it didn't work. How do I change my driver version?

A quick google got me the NVIDIA homepage and instructions that flat out don't work. It recommends opening device manager, selecting my driver, and choosing the "Roll Back Driver" option. But that option is greyed out! I think the problem is that this computer has never had any previous versions of the driver on it, but that's a guess and might not be true. Does anyone know where I can just install previous versions of the drivers?

Well thats now exactly how not to do that. It does not work with device manager. I'll recommended looking it up youtube how to do a clean gpu driver uninstall but how you recieve specific drivers for your gpu is unkown to me yet
