This was the fix for it, would you mind trying it out - I'll quote it from the old guide:
---------------------
If you happen to use another SteamVR compatible VR HMD things get tricky. Due to issues with the Unreal Engine 4.18 (as described on the Unreal developer forums[answers.unrealengine.com]) which the game uses Windows Mixed Reality headsets will show a distorted picture in SteamVR mode.
You can however use Revive[github.com] and then patch GalGun2-Win64-Shipping.exe from the [Gal Gun 2]\GalGun2\Binaries folder using the description to run Steam games on the Revive Wiki[github.com]. This will essentially force the game to use Oculus libraries through SteamVR - while this is a massive detour (emulating Oculus via SteamVR which is emulated via Mixed Reality) it works. So far this has been tested only with a Samsung Odyssey, more reports are welcome.
---------------------
Please report if it works - I doubt we'll see a fix of this as Epic broke this on the Unreal Engine for version 4.18 - to fix it, INTI would either have to create a custom build of Unreal Engine 4.18 with the bug fixed or they'd have to switch to Unreal Engine 4.19 or newer.
As WMR isn't officially supported I doubt this is goign to happen.
Thanks for the suggestion but I can't even get the game RUNNING with this fix!
Yeah I'm using a Lenovo Explorer and it also has the screen warping problem. Tried patching Gal Gun 2 with Revive but what happens is I patch it, try to run it, and it tells me it can't find the Remixed DLL file. I copy over the Remixed DLL and it does the "starting up a VR game" effect but in blue...and then just sends me back to the WMR home. Yes I have tried it with both the Revive DLL in the folder as well and removed from the folder and had the same result. Can't even boot the game in Revive.
I doubt I'd succeed at compiling source engine with that pull request to extract its SteamVR plugin from it.
If you have a working Windows MR configuration - I could imagine you would also not be able to set a pause button though as Revive might emulate an Oculus while SteamVR would block the menu button for itself - absolutely share it using the Steam Workshop.
It also tells me some .json action manifest file for Gal Gun 2 is missing whenever I go to controller binding. (EDIT: The folder is is looking for doesn't even seem to exist. It's looking for a [USERNAME}/appdata/roaming/Revive folder. I know the appdata/roaming folder is hidden, saw them, but they do not have a Revive folder inside of them.)
I think the game is actually launching in some kind of weird mix of VR and non-VR mode as the first time I ran it after putting those new patch files in, it told me I was launching in non-VR mode. It no longer gives me a VR or non-VR choice...but regardless I can look around and I see me controllers being tracked. (EDIT: Okay, launching directly from the executeable has it launch in non-VR mode, it launches in VR from Steam)
For the record I JUST bought this computer and it's pretty darn beefy so I sincerely doubt that's why it has framerate issues.
Thanks for your continued help though. This gives me hope that a solution can be found.
Okay. Solutions for my fellow WMR strugglers:
#1) Controller not working.
If you go to your SteamVR rebind settings and it tells you it can't find action_manifest.json? That's because for some reason you don't have the input files in your user folder.
In whatever folder you unzipped ReVive into, look for a subfolder just called Revive. Copy that. Now go to your windows drive (probably C:) and look for the Users folder. Open that, then the folder for your username. Now on the top bar of the folder, click View and click the checkmark for "Hidden Files". This will show your AppData folder. Open that, and then the Roaming folder. Now paste that Revive folder in here.
So that's:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Appdata\Roaming
NOW when you go to your controller binding, you can find the bindings Link posted earlier. Click that and use that and your controller should work great.
#2) OH EGAD THE SCREEN IS STUTTERY AND AWFUL! HELP!
Go to the in-game settings and turn down the resolution. It might glitch out a little here as I had one resolution seem to work then stop working then the lowest resolution stopped working then...well it was a mess. Just fiddle with the resolution until the pain stops and once it does stop? DON'T RISK IT! Just stop there.
I first knew it was REVINE.
I also found this patch and REVINE in the previous post ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/851890/discussions/0/1759104257600290758/ ) and installed it, but when I played the game, FATAL ERROR occurred in the game and I could not try it.
I am just an WMR(samsung odyssey)user.
I did not install any other vr, so running REVINE did not notice any changes. I understand that this is a program for keyboard rebinding, but I do not know what is associated with the warping of the screen.
What is the first step I need to take in order to handle distortion on the screen?
Is there any more to install than the 1.6 patch or revine you provided?
was able to fix the screen wrapping problem with the advice given earlier, using revive. looks beautiful.
However I can not for the life of me get the controller to respond.
I am getting that error with the missing action_manifest.json .
I read carefully this recommmendation given by GEL, copied the revive fodler as per instructions. but no go, still getting the error and can not bind.
This was the post I was following:
"WE DID IT FAM! WE FIXED IT!!!!!

So what do I do ? I cant find any keybinding link as suggested and cant get the controllers working at all.
Any advice ?
Thank you
1.I also can not enter the EDIT mode in steamvr to config the controllers for this game, it doesnt allow it, unlike every other VR game I have installed.
when I choose settings->controller binding->and select GG2, the edit button does not appear, and either I get the action_manifest.json or sometimes no message at all but i get back to the game choosing screen.
2.LINK wrote "I testwise published a button assignment for Oculus on the Workshop, see if you can find it (see https://galgun.pikachu.moe/buttonassign.jpg - I assigned each button to itself). I imagine you'll be able to get Windows MR working using this".
I dont understand, what exactly did you publish ? what is the file called ? where do i find it and how do i connect it to the game? I tried to look at steam workshop and unable to locate this, I dont exactly understand what I am looking for there. can you please give the full details ?
Thank you.
