How does this game handles character levels?

Hi,

I just recently started playing with the dlc contents and before Whis and Beerus the characters were around lvl 55 - 83.
After some training with Whis, Goku and Vegeta became 160(ish) with SSBlue, buuuut the others remained at the same level.

I started the 2nd dlc and when the hordes are coming they are lvl100+ and it means my damage with Piccolo and Gohan is 1 or 2. :D Am I missing a point here with this weird level differences? I did not stockpile too many sacred whatever potions, so I was only able to level them up by 8-10 levels, but they are still far below the Frieza army levels.

Is there any better way of approaching this problem than grinding Whis' training and using the exp potions to level up my characters?

Yes part 2 do the infinite horde battle. Get 1600ish kills before you die and you will get roughly 55000000 exp and it dumps it on all Characters.

But it means I need to grind Whis' training first and get Gohan AND Piccolo to a high enough level (110-120 I guess), so they can carry their own team. Right now Gohan is lvl 96, Piccolo is 68, so they are both weak af, not to mention the other characters who are...well...they are just there. :)

part dlc final battle is 300 so ur gonna need to beat beerus before even attempting it. just stockpile some water wont take too long.
