They definitely force you to collect in the main story, breaks up the pacing. "Use Ki blasts on dinosaurs", "Collect apples", "Catch fish".
I could say that about a lot of the open world content in the game being unnecessary and a waste of time. Dislike the grind, most fights are pretty mindless and simple.
The devs could have spent more time and effort in making everything fun, instead of just a few fights.
example: The 23rd world tournament has 6 fun ground fights for the price of $14 USD*, and a bunch of unnecessary open world bits that devalue the pacing. I would have rather had more story fights with Yamcha, Krillin, etc... but we got what we got.
2 hours of content + 10 hours of optional grind. with more open world fetch quest areas with the same brigand and robot enemies repeated.
You could easily spend that same amount of money for a cheaper game, with less grindy bloat.
At the end of the day the combat's just mashing, it's a ton of grinding, you have to use a time machine to do quests you missed and that undoes your customisations, most side quests are fetching or killing nothing interesting happens and I would say it's worth it to see the DBZ story in CC2's style but unlike the Naruto games they skip a lot of the fights and seem to have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the cutscenes to where it rips back down to 30FPS during them, and during big boss attacks too! I don't know how they managed that one.
It's a neat looking mess, but it's a mess I wouldn't pay full price for, maybe not even at 50%. "All the content it gives you" isn't worth full price it's just rehash, repeat, redo.
The DLC is definitely not worth it, at least the first two.
The DLC is hit and miss, but when it is a hit its a hit (Bardock/Trunks DLC).
