Trunks DLC however you can definitely play in an immersive and cohesive way by mixing it alongside the main story. They honestly should have integrated it into the main story because it's really great and fits perfectly.
This way it will perfectly fit into the main story and both are separate from eachother, so you won't have to worry about levels or anything. The only things that carry over from Trunks DLC to his main story character are his new DLC abilities.
As for Bardock DLC, unfortunately I don't own it so don't know much about it, but if it's separated from the main story in the same way as Trunks' DLC is, then I'd definitely play it first before the main story or as early as I possibly can. Then play the rest as I noted above.
Its really just a prequel to the main DBZ and DB.
As a alternative...you could start playing it right before the namek saga or right before Goku arrives on namek...since Bardocks vision do hint to that legendary fight of Goku
