First of all, don't bother trying to grind that early on in the game. It isn't worth it. Besides that, the developer(s) have even stated you don't need to grind as the game will naturally progress you to where you need to be.
As you gradually progress through the game, you'll have the opportunity to get a bunch of items that boost EXP gained, as well as unlock a "community board" that can boost it even further.
I'm on my second play of Kakarot and I was surprised to learn about things I didn't use at all during my first complete play through. Like, when blocking a attack, if you press another button, you'll warp behind the enemy giving you the opportunity to just beat the hell out of them.
Don't forget when you have NPCs fighting alongside you, they have assist abilities you can trigger. Krillian's solar flair is by far one of the most OP ones to use.
Make sure you check your character's current skills and see where their skill trees are at, because later on, upgrading those skills become crucial. Further, some skills, like rock, paper, scissors can stun the enemy, others will also do additional "stun damage" to them that will immobilize them until that bar fills up again.
Each boss tends to have patterns you can follow, in some cases it's pretty clear that the developers intend for you to simply dodge. In most of these cases using rapid movement is good enough to dodge these special attacks.
Finally, there's this yellow meter on the side of your character's portrait, I think it's called a shining force meter, or whatever, when that is full, power up to max and then keep powering up, that will put you in a temporary boosted state where you do a lot more damage, I also didn't know this at the time, but it also allows you to spam energy attacks without slowing down.
The first one hits like regular, but if you keep spamming it, they'll just keep doing it over and over and over until either your shining force meter is empty or your Ki runs out. But keep in mind any enemies too high of a level will only take 1 damage from energy attacks, even when shining.
You refill your shining force meter by fighting, I always make sure that my shining force meter is maxed out before any major fights.
Shortly after being given access to Capsule Corp, you'll be able to buy healing items from local merchants and from vending machines. Buy as much as possible and make sure you equip them. You can basically use them any time you want in a fight, as much as you want and it can easily help you push through tough fights.
Also people saying not to grind for meals etc early are full of crap. you can spend maybe an hour collecting ingredients for spicy tofu and dominate everything up to frieza saga with 1-2 hours of simple food grinding. after frieza saga it's really about exp more than food boosting
