How does combat actually work?
I understand the basic stuff, charge ki, super attacks, combos and when to use dodges and / or beam attacks.

I just got to namek, Fighting Dodoria with Vegeta.

I did the fight fine enough, but I noticed Dodoria was in a constant stage of "surge", was impossible to stagger, impossible to block and hit for 10k per hit.

I was only able to win because I chugged 10x small vita drinks.

However, this bothers me, Vegeta was level 24 and Dodoria was level 23 so there should not have been any huge differences in power right?

I see I can just do any fight so long as I have the money to buy surplus heal items to spam, however it would obviously be more fun if I was able to fight enemies using the actual mechanics.

What am I doing wrong / don't understand that made it so Dodoria was simply ignoring all game mechanics to be an unstaggerable, infinite surge mode truck?

Just to add more confusion, i fought Zarbon shortly after and he was easy? What's going on with that.

Zarbon was mostly staggerable unless he clearly went into surge mode in which case you dodge or teleport behind him.

None of that worked with Dodoria xD
Ima keep it real with you, the Dodoria fight is kinda ass. I had the same issue and then literally never had an issue with the other fights in the same way again in the game, and it just makes it weirder since Vegeta is suppose to absolutely wreck shop on Dodoria's spiky ass

The most I can really say for that fight is just to sort of chip away at his stun meter, don't block his specials because they all crush your guard and dodge them instead, and hammer his pink buttcheeks when his stun finally breaks

Basically, the trick is to learn how to work away at those stun meters. Get good with your dodge timing so you can keep up the offense as long as possible, and absolutely go to pound town as soon as they break for that sweet sweet damage. Pay attention to which of your special attacks do extra stun damage (melee specials generally) and upgrade your stun damage in general, it's really, really helpful.

TL;DR Dodoria was a swamp ass fight, but most of the game ain't like that. Beat that stun meter like it owes you money, and always press the attack in whatever small way you can to work it down till you can hammer them with specials with no consequence
You spam-hit warp left/right/backwords then use a energy attack when they try to rush you over and over.

except not with Dodoria or the first Recoome vs Goku fight.

You can't spam melee because they don't stagger and hit instantly counter, you can't warp hit spam because you can only do that twice before you need a recharge and some enemies just have a relentless barrage of endless attacks and can't be stopped.

I'm just going to say it must be a bug that causes some enemies to be in infinite surge mode, as the combat is pretty much as shallow as you say, it has simple rules and simple executions, it's just it seems to randomly pick some enemies that ignore those rules.

You just gotta time your dodges well, use the block/energy push ability for damage cancel and take note of the delay on his attack.
