Tried to see if the old cheats work...They don't

I tried both the "Hard Mode" and and the Japanese Exclusive "Unlock all bosses" codes from the original PSX release. I could be doing them wrong (I'm using a 360 controller and using the approximate buttons so L1=LB, Square=X, and R2=RT) but i couldn't get them to work. Looks like Normal Mode forever and unlocking Baiken the old fashioned way aka the right way (At least I have my old ps1 save with her).

BTW to do the cheats on Playstation it was

HARD MODE: Hold Down + Square + L1 + R2 and power on the PlayStation. Continue to hold the buttons until the phrase "Team Neo Blood" disappears. If you entered the code correctly, "Normal Mode" will be replaced with "Hard Mode" and "Hard" will appear above the two player/computer chaos bar.

UNLOCK BOSS FOR VS. (JP PSX Exclusive): At the Arc System Works logo, press Down + Square + L1 + R2. Then, release the buttons when the phrase "Team Neo Blood" disappears.

You know, I was exactly gonna post this, and yeah, the boss unlock code / hard mode code doesn't work. (Yes, I tried it the same way on a xbox controller.)

Probably has something to do with the game possibly being a semi-remake on Unity then :/

Yeah, I even saw the game was rebuilded from unity, even though the game still uses the same English translation that Atlus done. Which means Justice is still mistakenly referred as male.

If this was remade and not a straight port why the hell doesn't this have online vs? I get it was made as a way to celebrate the series and to get people to check out the original but why not add more features. I love Arc Sys but I'm starting to think SNK is better with its remakes since they add stuff too them. Somehow Arc Sys took away more. I hope they update it to fix the justice being referred to "he" thing at the very least.

I would assume these codes only worked because of the Atlus logo.

You can still unlock Baiken via the no-loss trick though (and don't worry, even if you lose to Baiken, you can still continue and win to unlock her). And the A.I. adapts depending on how frequently you do an Instant Kill (or so I've heard, I haven't tested it).

The JP version doesn't have the Atlus logo, and I've tried that one, still unlocks the 3 boss characters. And yeah, the AI stops baiting IK's until Stage 5, then you really gotta go all out on the rest of the game.

There's a bunch of IK stuff I want to confirm... I heard Testament can enter IK mode off a counterhit c.S (close slash), but I don't know the truth of it.

I hope they fix that, though I'm still glad that they did an actual native Windows port for this game and this is even stable Unity game which doesn't happen to often (granted it's a 2D game, so maybe it is the reason).

Can someone with a copy of the original game confirm that the Hard Mode cheat is real? I've tried it on an emulator, but it doesn't seem to work.

I've already done them on both region versions of GG from the PS1, and I can confirm that the code works on those. Sadly, they don't work in this re-release.

Did you try them on the console?
In any case, it's confirmed that it's missing from this version. Also missing is the handicap setting from Versus mode. Anything else you've found that's missing?

Maybe? As far as I know Atlus's translations are often very good, and it was the first game in the series so not much was known about Justice... So it's possible that only minor edits are necessary.

KoF '94 Re-bout, KoF '98 Ultimate Match, and KoF 2002 Unlimited Match are remakes not just simple rom dumps like most of their re-releases.

Metal Slug X is also interesting because it is a remake of 2 using the engine of 3 on the same hardware. So when buying Metal Slug games you can just skip 2 and buy X instead.
