Killing eggs.
When you kill them with snipers are they still supposed to erupt into creeper? Kinda seems dumb that even if you proactively take them out, they still turn into an incredible amount of creeper.

Same thing with the plane things, why does their payload still keep coming at me, can't the sniper shoot that, too?

The idea is that you want to take out those eggs before they get launched at vital and undefended parts of your base, so you generally do want to at least have snipers around your claimed territories. You'll want to hold off on killing eggs on their home turf until you are sure that your defenses can handle the inevitable creeper flood that will come from popping so many eggs at once.

The little payload thing is admittedly a roll of the dice in many cases; a lot of times, the payload will land harmlessly away from your stuff assuming you have snipers appropriately on the edge of your territories, but sometimes, one of those things will get a lucky shot in post-mortem. I think these rare and unfortunate moments are negligible. If you see this happening often in a particular part of your frontline, just add some more snipers and cannons to back up the ones that get temporarily disabled.

It's largely the problem of trying to nullify a spore pod launcher and destroying the egg is equivalent to not destroying the egg. It's not a game breaking issue, but it doesn't seem reasonable or consistent. Snipers can disintegrate falling bombs of creeper, missiles disintegrate the spore creeper, but eggs turn into creeper.

I guess it's just less fun to shrug and say "what can ya do?"

Suicide drop half a dozen snipers directly onto the egg nest to pop all the eggs. Build a shield and place it next to the nullifier while it constructs.

Problem solved.

I'm not sure how it's unreasonable at all - different threats behave in different ways. If they all behaved the same way I think it would be a lot more boring. The order in which you clear areas on a map can allow you to leave a number of eggs on a section of the map you leave until later, limiting how many more will spawn in places you are attacking, etc. You can always use a shield to get a nullifier closer to a spore launcher if needed.

I think this is kind of my point- the threat is not per se behaving in a different way. It's a small falling thing that a sniper should target and subsequently disintegrate.

I am not having difficulty with them, nor with coming up ways to mitigate them. It was a question/comment on fit and wanted to make sure it was actual desired behaviour and not a strange bug. Thanks.

This was the impression I got, but yeah, the idea is you're "popping" eggs rather than outright "disintegrating" them, Creeper World technology has only come so far. The way I see it, since snipers clearly have 0 effectiveness against creeper (otherwise what's stopping them from shooting land creeper?), they actually only annihilate the shells of the eggs, leaving the creeper inside intact.

That seemed reasonable at first, but then I discovered you could use them on the rain, so /shrug.

Note that if you pop eggs inside or above a shield, they don't drop creeper, you can use that to an advantage.

Just put like 40 cannons around it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You got me there, Slick, I haven't played a level where I needed to shoot rain, so I cannot confirm or deny if snipers disintegrate the creeper within the rain, although rain droplets carry far less creeper than eggs do

Sniping eggs is useful to get them popped before your cannons, mortars, and especially nullifiers are in range of the creep they release.

I was raging when Skimmers released their disabling thingy, when they were popped by snipers. I was like "ok where will this ♥♥♥♥ land this time OOOOH RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DEFENCE THANKYOUVERYMUCH, and here I lost the AC cannon reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" :D
JakarysPrime Dec 27, 2020 @ 11:28am
Skimmers are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying! You snipe them as far away as you can and they somehow still yeet their stun thing right in the middle of your defenses.

Don't let your front line get too far ahead of your Snipers and get the range upgrade ASAP. In fact, keep your snipers right behind (or right in front if you have room) of your front line. The farther away you kill the Skimmers, the less likely they are to zap anything important.

And make sure to check your lines of sight for dead zones that your snipers can't shoot into. Their huge range doesn't matter if there's a hill or cliff giving gliders cover to get close.

I put a cannon and a sniper next to each other when possible
