Worse than CW3?
In my opinion, the game is really good, but is not better than CW3, even worse in some aspects.
The game itself is good and I not regret buying it, but it is sliiightly worse than my expectations were. Pros of 4th Creeper World include better balance, better fluid physics (or so I think because of 3d), good new game mechanics (enhanced creeper and enemy flyers are nice additions), awesome orbitals and better resource system.
But when I compare CW4 with CW3, I see some major cons of 4.
First and the strongest cons of all, the upgrade system. Instead of multi-level upgrades, we have six simple one-level upgrades, which is drastically more shallow than the upgrade system in CW3.
Second, the map generator... Only a few fixed-select settings? Seriously? It is not worth even to compare it with the awesome generator in CW3! And is it just me, or are the maps by the CW4 generator really much more similar and less diverse?
And there are some more things here and there. No power circles for buildings "overcharging" (upd: there actually is an alternate mechanic for that), no experimentals like Thor and Bertha, and some more minor things that were in CW3 and that are neither present nor substituted in CW4.
Of course, I'm speaking about non-campaign games only. Campaign is great, just as I expected from KnuckleCracker. But the "Creeper World" thing for me is not about the campaign, but about endless hours in random maps, skirmishes etc, and CW4, looking much less diverse in that aspect, thus looks just inferior to CW3 for me. Is there something I missed?
What do you folks think?

Map editor and online maps are sure to take care of any random map generator concerns. Im only in the campaign so far and cant comment drastically about upgrades and such yet.

Really liking what ive seen so far though

thor and bertha is in game, erns are equivalent to power zones. and while the random generator may be less complex than CW3 that is because a LOT of people thought CW3 DMD was too complex.

Ya I agree, you might be able to chalk some of it up to the difficulty transitioning from 2d to 3d. Maybe they'll some stuff like that later on who knows. I also kinda wish AC sprayers had better range. they feel a lot worse than in 3. I am really liking the game though and I'm glad they transitioned to 3D.

I just assumed the map editor would get some updates after the launch

Where? No Thor and no Bertha in menus of a random map.

Oh, my bad, I managed to forgot that you can attach them to any building. Yet even if you could not, it would still be not as big problem as the new upgrade system.

On the random maps, the DMD in CW3 was considered too complex and too difficult to get a good map from. There's always a conflict between accessibility and complexity, and the user-designed custom maps have always been more popular than the random ones anyway. From what I understand that's part of what drove that particular change. The upgrades are more similar to the Particle Fleet system, which apparently was considered a successful experiment in that aspect.

CW3 Forge is just a grind to victory. You sit there and do nothing and accumulate power... While the current system could be considered less complex, it has you deciding how to spend your resources, rather than just waiting on them.

On random maps, DMD was pretty unwieldy, and KC wanted something simpler. If DMD was your selling point for CW3 then I understand the frustration.

Well CW3 was brilliant so it's hard to live up to it. IMO the 3D aspect of CW4 has just made it harder to read clearly, and at the same time the UI and general UX of the game is an even bigger mess. If I could've asked for anything to be worked on more for CW4 it would've been more UI polish, better tutorialisation and explanation of features to open it up to more people, but instead it's even more confusing. Still liking it though, it's just gonna end up being probably even more niche.

Oh no! A poor tutorial is really a big deal for me. I love a good tutorial that is comprehensive and teaches all aspects of gameplay. These games are difficult enough to understand, so a poor tutorial doesn't help at all.

I hope the developer improves the tutorials.

personally playing in top down, prefer this in 2D than 3D.

Feels like a downgrade to CW3 in terms of appearance to be honest. Dont get me wrong, fun game, but not sure the 3D adds much

I understand the perspective of preferring the 2D appearance, but 3D adds quite a bit in terms of gameplay. Height positioning of missiles to shoot down spores which can arc over them, waves, stacks, etc. There are a number of gameplay elements that could not be represented as well in the 2D format.
Game just released, people INSTANTLY want the comunity to have made like a million maps already. DUDE there is a RANDOM MAP GENERATOR that works quiet fine in this one! Its not called MK5 just for show!

Other than that : did you forget that this here game plays waaaaay bevor creeper world 1? Mankind basicaly just ENCOUNTERS the creeper this time around (thou then we should not have any means of neutralizing it at all) ofc then stuff would be, well, not as nice as it would be in CW3 wouldnt it? Even the upgrade system is more from CW1 than CW3

Is CW4 better then CW3? Definitely not. 3d made game worse in my opinion. But is CW4 a bad game? Not in a slitest. Biggest letdown is the campaign UI. In CW3 it helped build on to a story, you felt like a part of the world. In CW4 its just another menu with buttons. Oh and all that 3d is really messed with game rules. In CW3 highground had a strategic advantage. If you held a highground than your cannons could fire on anything below, in 3d however highground is more of disadvantage since only mortars can fire of it.

Game just released,
I give it my thumbs up and a review on the store page.

worse? not at least, hell no.
It's what CW2 was to CW1, but for CW3.
Improves and takes a funky turn. And it's still fun.
