How to run?

I have seen playthroughs where players seems to be able to run quite fast, but it doesn´t seem to work for me. Maybe I am just playing it wrong because I can´t even beat Make a star 2 and I have tried it many many times now.

The "dash" maneuver takes some practice. You have to rapidly thrash the joysticks up/down up/down up/down for several seconds, until the prince zooms off in whatever direction you're facing. One challenge is learning to do this without changing direction. ;-)

Once you understand the motion you're trying to achieve, pick up the controller a few times a day and practice doing it outside the game. You'll get there.

Okay but the trouble is that I am using my keyboard and have no idea how to do it there. Thank you for the comment :)
