About to refund the game: Where is the fun?
Hi there, I'm about to refund the game but I had good hopes on it.

It's my first time playing this gameplay and I'm not understanding what is the fun on moving a ball gathering objects.

Is that all?

I'm about to refund, but asking to see if I'm missing the appeal of the core gameplay or if there is a bigger picture later that makes it worthy.

What is the fun that you found playing it?

And just to be clear, I'm not trying to trash the game, simply asking because so far I cannot understand what is fun of this.

cheers!

It has a wonderful progression. At the outset, you're picking up thumbtacks, paper clips, candies etc. in cutesy home environments. By the end, you're bouncing across islands picking up buildings and ocean liners.

My favorite part is probably the middle section, when you leave the house and roam the streets while animals and people flee in terror from your katamari.

It gets increasingly difficult to control the katamari and achieve high scores, so there's a big skill component. The art style and soundtrack are a huge part of the appeal.

I love the art, music, and rolling living things up.
The different sounds each one makes is so interesting!:katamari_ball:

Natty La Ridge summed it up brilliantly. This game isn't for everyone, since it doesn't have many traditional game elements and doesn't offer much plot progression. However, it's the gameplay and concept itself that make it so enjoyable; it's not really intended to be a game you beat for the sake of beating it, it's a game to really savor as a unique experience. The soundtrack is fantastic, the characters are likable, and the progression of the ball as you roll it larger and larger makes this a game that you would play to unwind. This is like stress relief, but without any shooting or high-tension action. If you don't have fun doing this, that's not your fault; the game was just not made for you. But I find that if you let go of expectations about this game living up to any puzzle or action games you've played before, there's a lot to be said for how charming this game is.

The fun is in rolling and collecting. but actually, it is whatever you make of it. yes, you can grow increasingly larger and roll up bigger things and get to new areas, so you do open up more stuff but this is the gameplay and if you don't find this satisfying then you should probably refund. no need to force it, we all like different things ^_^

There's a strategy element as aside from the ball being tricky to control, your katamari has to start out picking up small things before it can pick up bigger things. With careful planning you can probably pick up most everything in a level, but therein lies the challenge of mapping your way through everything in each level to find the optimal way to build that katamari.

Roll, roll, roll the ball. Quickly through the stage.
I can't can't quit until I've filled every collection page!

Different strokes for different folks.
Some people get a lot of fun out of blowing eachother's brains out.
Some people don't
Some people love games that are basically just a comic book, with no actual gamePLAY
Some people don't

Some people enjoy games like this

To have fun with games that lack major overarching stories-

1. Turn off brain
2. Push buttons
3. Let hindbrain soak in the glorious music of the Katamari

That's why I love it. One of the reasons. No overthinking.
Natty La Ridge Apr 27, 2022 @ 12:12pm
Well, a tiny bit of thinking: you might want to prioritize unlocking the three eternal (endless play) modes.

  1. Eternal 1 / Cousin Nik: reach 1.3 meters in Make a Star 4
  2. Eternal 2 / Cousin June: reach 25 meters in Make a Star 8
  3. Eternal 3 / Cousin Ace: reach 800 meters in Make the Moon

The eternal modes are great for completionists who want to get every single item or cousin, or if you just want to zone out endlessly.

Especially on Make the Moon. good for zoning out!:katamari_ball:
