Controller not working?

It doesn't seem like my controller is being recognized. I've tried it with both a steam controller and an 8bitdo. Controllers work fine for other games.

Start Steam in Big Picture mode. Go into Settings > Controller Settings, make sure all boxes are unchecked. Exit Big Picture mode, then exit Steam. Restart Steam and start the game.

If your controller still isn't recognized, it isn't compatible with the game's native controller support. You might be able to get it work using Steam's controller overlay to make it appear to be a different make/model, or by downloading newer or more compatible drivers.

This thread pops up when searching about broken controllers in this game, so here's the real solution. I didn't see any way to configure controls or use my controller until after the tutorial. When you're on the main planet, you can then configure controls and video options and my 8bitdo controller worked fine.

yeah, my controller works, in other steam games. but not this. i tried this fix, but nothing.

yeah i have the same problem with this game. it wont even reconiye the in build controller from the steam deck. ♥♥♥♥ this game. unplayable with keyboard

Have the Logitech F310 and it works just fine with the game.
