If you're on the fence, here's a review, of sorts. $30 is...not good.
First: I'm an enormous, massive fan of the franchise. I own them all. I've repurchased them on multiple platforms and probably have almost 1000 hours invested in the series. SO: I was super excited to finally be able to play this on my PC and bought it for $30 as I figured it would encourage Bandai Namco to release the rest of the series on this platform (which I would also buy).

That said, it's not really what I was expecting. The game looks BETTER, generally, but it should be emphasized that this ISN'T a remake. It's essentially a direct port, with very few options at all. Remakes take all the original assets and...well, remake them, with high-res textures, etc. This game uses the same textures of the original, so they're still low-res and pixelated, but sharper, due to anti-aliasing.

The keyboard control scheme is horrible and really difficult to get a hold on. You need a controller, basically. I was expecting some kind of combination control scheme using the mouse, but they treat the mouse as if it doesn't exist. As far as I could tell, the key bindings can't be altered. There's an option to switch the keyboard control scheme to "simple" mode, which is marginally easier to deal with, but if the keys can't be rebound, what's the bloody point?

Display options are limited. There's no native support for ultra widescreen displays, which is what I have. Highest native resolution is 2560x1440, which is fine, I guess, but doesn't match my display. The game has options for V Sync, Anti-aliasing (not sure what kind) up to x8, along with some kind of Ambient Occulsion option (I didn't notice a difference) and a vignette option.

The game has no autosave. So make sure you manually save the game whenever you're done.

When all is said and done, asking $30 for this is too much. Yes, it's on my favorite platform, but the thing is so bare bones that it really doesn't justify the price. $20, like the original PS2 release, would have been fine. $15 would have been far more applicable. So as much of a fan as I am of the game, I'm going to return it and get my money back, and buy it again later, when it's more appropriately priced.
