Uhhhh no DRM?
Not advocating piracy or linking to anything, but just mentioning that people on reddit are saying this game has no DRM of any kind. I hate Denuvo too, but at least something would stop any casual person from just installing it on as many PCs as they want. I've bought this game enough times already, no need to make me feel like more of an idiot by giving it away free to everyone else.

A lack of DRM is absolutely fantastic, and extremely out of character for Bandai Namco. I'll absolutely be grabbing this after the Christmas rush is over; I would have completely ignored it if something like Denuvo were present. Don't worry about the people who will pirate the game, be happy that when you buy this and support a release without any extra DRM, you will not have paid for a rental.

Do you specifically mean no DRM at all, or no Denuvo? Because I agree on Denuvo, but other DRM are almost no hit to system performance, which is the only reason we non pirates care. Steam's own DRM is really easy to beat, but most people don't, making it enough in the opinion of most of us. The argument for Denuvo for huge games is debatable, but for games like this, it's overkill.

Less invasive DRM of some kind would have stopped most people from stealing it, while still not throwing our CPU cycles out the window.

Completely DRM-free releases are always going to be the best, but the Steam client itself is completely portable with an indefinite Offline Mode, so I don't mind Steam as a DRM solution. I still think that absolutely no restrictions are best, though; I hope Katamari gets released on GOG in the future.

And yeah, I agree that Denuvo is overkill for a ton of games, but that hasn't stopped other companies. *cough*SEGA*cough*

Oh boy, don't even want to get started on Sega and Denuvo. Valkyria Chronicles 4 *cough*. VC4 should run just fine on my laptop, but the added Denuvo drag is juuuuust enough to make it unacceptable. I think I may buy this on Switch instead for the same reason. It SHOULD run on my laptop, but I would have to trust Bamco port quality.

Nothing wrong with my desktop, but in a post-Switch world, my new requirement is "if it looks like @$$, it better be portable."

That's some mental gymnastics, man.

People pirating a game does not affect me on a personal level and neither should it you.

You know what's extra crazy? The original Valkyria Chronicles is one of the totally DRM-free games on Steam. Then Denuvo happened, and SEGA put it into things like Tetris.

Anyone with any inclination to pirate a game can do so denuvo or not.. support the devs.

As soon as I confirm that this is true, I'm buying it. So maybe it's not such a stupid strategy after all.

Steam is the DRM for this (Steam is a DRM). If you quit Steam and launch Katamari's exe from the game's folder, it'll first launch Steam. (I just tested to confirm this)

There are SOME games that can be launched without it automatically launcing Steam beforehand. Those are the ones that have absolutely no DRM. Ether Vapor Remaster, for example, is one of them.

Steam is a non-issue DRM, as it can be easily hacked around(if you really need to for some reason) and doesnt harm game performance like Denuvo can.

lol.
Max Is Back Dec 8, 2018 @ 6:23am
Just to confirm, epilis is absolutely right. The game uses Steam's own (very modest) DRM and absolutely nothing else besides. It's kind of sad that we live in a world where this is a surprise, that a 15 year old cult game is re-released without some draconian always-online DRM BS, but here we are. Anyway, I know this was just a budget decision rather than a policy decision from Bandai Namco but I applaud them for it nonetheless and have bought the game at full price.

So even though BN doesn't listen to us guys, I just want to put my hand up and say that you made a sale by not using DRM. Yes, that really happens.

Good, Denuvo is trash, I'll be buying this later in the month.
