Counters: Exact Mechanics & Discussion
So, Counters seem a pretty necessary part of the arsenal for me, but maybe I'm not straying from my comfort zone enough. It seems like a lot of highscores in matches I've been in have had high Hunter Stuns, and setting off your Counter ability as you walk in for the kill seems like (correct me if I'm wrong?) a guaranteed way to avoid getting a slap for being obvious.

The cooldown makes it impossible to play this way 100% of the time, but it does seem like a very strong aggression strat for when your quarry knows you're coming.

I'm curious what everyone else thinks of Counter's place in the Ability Meta, how other people are using it in-practice, and how useful you're finding it.

(I usually pair it with Expose for utter paranoid gameplay, or Humiliate, as it seems like it'd offer good protection if a Hunter walks in on your happydance; Haven't had a chance to test the latter yet, though).

I'm also not 100% on the exact numbers; I know it counters Kills & Stuns, and is audible within about the "X is nearby" range;

1. Does the Counter last for the duration of the Glow animation (seems 3-4 seconds, but that's a rough estimate)?
2. Does an Assassination/Stun (by the person using it) attempt stop its protection prematurely?
3. Does getting Arrested, Humiliating a corpse, Disguising or any other status-change stop its protection prematurely?

Does counter give an audio que when it's used? This should be stated in it's description if so......

Huh, I swear I've heard the "schwing" SFX Counter uses, or perhaps something very like it, and from that assumed someone had activated Counter nearby. It happened fairly regularly, not just a one-off thing either.

I guess if that's not the case, what other things sound similar-enough that I have probably mistaken those for Counters?

I'm curious if anyone else came to that conclusion from hearing [whatever it is I heard], or whether it was just me.. If the former, then making the SFX different might be a good idea to not confuse people. If the latter.. Eh. My brain, it is made of cheese.

There are audio cues for getting into range of your quarry and for having your hunter get into range of you. Either one could be what you're hearing.
