U may try River City Ransom: Underground. It's not made by original team but ratified by them.
Shenmue. Persona. Kenka Banchou. Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun. Rokudenashi no Blues.
I can't really recommend River City Ransom: Underground though. It's more River City than Nekketsu. But the game is good.
@shin-yeo: These are a lot of games. From what I gathered, most of the titles are from the "Kunio-kun" series? And yes, this seems to be the series that I've seen several times in the past. From the ones you mentioned, I find Shodai Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun, the first 16-Bit entry, the most interesting. And do I understand it correctly that it features Coop? Rokudenashi no Blues also looks very interesting.
It's really too bad both ofn these weren't officially localized, but still thank you very much for mentioning them!
Did all of the titles you mentioned, including Shenmue and Persona, influence you in the creation of this game?
Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari. Shenmue. Persona. That's my obvious influences.
I don't really like SNes Kunio games and Rokudenashi isn't very good game also (but it looks nice). Kenka Banchou is fun though I expected more from the creators of the Way of Samurai. But I like it anyway.
> And do I understand it correctly that it features Coop?
Shin Nekketsu features Coop, Shodai isn't. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Nekketsu_K%C5%8Dha:_Kunio-tachi_no_Banka
After I played this game to finish once, I have understood why you've said "Ringo is not talking like bad boys".
Can I hear some more about Ringo Ishikawa?
When you designed Ringo and his friends as a Japanese, you had imagined what kind of Japanese characters? and if it would be so, these are from games? or, from yakuza movie like "the yakuza"? from some sort of manga or anime show? or, just from a actual person?
And, looking back...while I playing, I think I had imagined like he talks like Spike (anime show, cowboy bebop), As a yakuza-like charactor in mixed fighting style. surely as a more younger, more ironically boy.
Was this understanding mistaken?
The reason why I am asking is because that a Japanese character would looks like having different inside by which talking style they use.
surely I must delete if you don't like these questions!
And Spike is the best ) So if Ringo resembles him in any way that's super cool )
I think I could hear very valuable things to yours and your game here.
I asked why that you imagined or not about yakuza movie, because in this game, there is written about Kachikomi once or twice.
That are often written as too much characterization in Japanese yakuza movie (or Furyo manga), like you said. Surely, it is pretty normal in yakuza movie or Furyo manga, so I don't have any doubts about it normally, as entertainment.
It can not be expressed in English well... if I say it simply, I've been really impressed because you break the normally perception, then it have forced change my perspectives.
There is not any exhilaration but I can't stop pray for Ringo, for his future.
Thank you for sharing your valuable story!
Actually, these two games series are not made by the same developers. The two series are published by Spike, but the developer of Way of the Samurai is Acquire (Tenchu, Shinobido, Akiba's Strip) and I don't know which studio is behind Kenka Bancho.
