Sorry to butt in, but if you need 2 hours to make 250k, you're doing it wrong.
First things first : you need a good geologist. Knowing on the spot what mineral is what (after a while, you can tell most of them by eye, but not their amounts and values) is invaluable. Pick the expensive stuff, leave the rest.
Then, you need a processing plant. Depending on your ship setup, one that have a high mineral efficiency or decent mineral efficiency and remass will be your best choice. It allows for stacking more stuff in one go.
Finally, the way you break stuff matters, as you can lose alot of time chasing fragments if you're imparting them with too much energy. I find my best setup to be one microwave array and one pulse laser, mounted on an Eagle. It also makes for great defense against hostiles.
As you pointed, drones make for much faster work, but even without them, you can make 300k in less than an hour.
So I just warm derelicts up with microwave laser until it explodes. Then excape pod pops up. And I can get excape pod, witch gains 50k $.
But If salvege coudl be profit of 250k then I should try it...
P.S. Mass driver is bad against derelicts, as it would make them spin. And not sure if it could be exploded this way.
