Koder, that's fine for an in-universe reason, but there's a big spectrum between "it's right here at this dot on the map" and "it's somewhere in the (roughly) 10,000,000,000km² area of Saturn's A ring". (Yes, I know the in-game area is only a tiny sliver of that). There's a whole station of miners where the crew spends most of its time. Maybe somebody on the station is willing to trade or sell some sort of hint as to what area I might look in?
Did you get a second tightbeam?
Edited:
Some dives after, I encountered a "salvage ship" doing a rescue operation on a ship. The crew member that gave the quest said "that's the ship we are looking for". He/she boarded it, found the missing person, and returned to station with the ship, that is now in my ship roster.
