Pirates and Microwvave beams.
Is there anything that can be done about pirates with microwave beams?
It feels like the only option is to give up and quit as they shut your ship down, but they don't deal any damage.

I will be tuning the AI behaviour for ships that have just a microwave weapons if few days, stay tight.

Yeah, not really compelling game play when you're forced to drift through space with no controls until you eventually explode.

This is already in the experimental branch, I anticipate it will hit default this week.

lol I keep running into these about 25 km in, although I can usually escape from them if a large enough asteroid blocks its line of sight, but yeah the drifting is frustrating, would be great if there was some kind of counter measure you could deploy or shielding you could install

That was annoying. but SOmetimes your ship gets online and you hit SHift. eventually you would be out of range of that ship. Then you could run away or shoot it with railgun.

Shoot it do peices with railgun last time.

Not really ships with 2 microwaves can stunlock you completely I fell 10 km before I hit a rock and had my reactor explode last time it is seriously annoying. Also ships equipped for mining don't carry rails around I only have 1 mining laser to get actual money worth diving for....

This behaviour was addressed in 0.309.1 - Recognition:
- NPC that stun-locked you will disengage after a while.

Good it was fixed.

My latest experience was:

I was able to fire thruster only for fraction of second. And really had to wait till it disengage. As I remember previous time I was able to break free and AI was even trying to follow me. And last time it really fly away (which looks pretty weird).

How do you shoot down asteroids that are on your flight path?
I haven't tried actual mining laser, but used MW laser. It's so damn slow, to melt asteroid. So I'm using MW beam to melt small chunks when I am still and Mass-driver or Railgun to fracture large rocks and shoot asteroids that are on my flight path when I'm moving fast following that small piece of Beryllium.

I don't? The first thing the tutorial/tutorial video teaches you is to be like a leaf on the wind. I use high quality pilot crewmembers proper hud strong engines so I don't have to shoot at things in a hurrry.
I bought the pulse laser and its rather fast. I used Eagle ship with extra storage so I can carry more stuff. Since I started encountering microwave enemies I switched to microwaves myself and rails cause micro emitters are seriously super slow. Also you should get at least Tug drones to stop material from running away they are seriously super handy. I use both tug and haul drones to make it easier(in fact the first proper upgrade for the first ship was a dronebay). Too bad some pirates are lunatics who simply want to kill and don't ask for money. I would rather drop 10-20k on them to eff off than deal with them.
The game seriously lacks proper weaponry. Torpedoes, explosive warheads for the railgun shots. Anything to make actual bounty hunting worthwhile...

Koder: The comment I made on getting stunlocked until I exploded on a rock: happened less than an hour before that. I came to discussions specifically to look this up. In my opinion we AND the AI ships should have the option for microwave shielding as an upgrade, the tool is simply absolutely unfair. Not only can you and the AI disable a ship completely REGARDLESS OF SIZE but you can intentionally cook the reactor of your enemy and kill them. Obviously the AI can't do that but I can. And I find that unfair, both ways.

Shielding, including microwave shielding, is already on the backlog - and it even came up couple times in votes, but community decided there are more pressing matters to address first.

It's on backlog, so it will eventually get added.

I'm not sure what you fixed, but that dumb little dude with the microwave doesn't relent, doesn't kill you... you can't use microwaves against him, and you have to drift around for 20 minutes until your propellant is gone. Pretty frustrating. I love the rest of the game so far, but this dude needs to be dealt with.
Koder  [developer] Nov 24, 2022 @ 2:34am
You have full manual control when this happens. If you just back away from him, he should let you go. If you, however, keep escalating (like firing back) - the escalation is where you end up.

do i need a bigger ship to take his power core home angry purple thing, spews out microwaves like a quasar, also my poor ships never been so banged up omg

one thing you can do is attempt to ram, then turn around and burn them with your engines. 1/1 on that method causing them to meltdown and explode
