umm, there are no loot boxes btw, no store at all in game at the moment, if you get it now you will get all the minis each season till it leaves early access. it will more than likely go free to play after that but that business model is 2 or so years down the road
Mesmerizing doom Oct 29, 2022 @ 10:06pm
Didnt they just remove that in the most recent update?

This is the state of gaming. All these (educated) people with high salary jobs and they can't fathom how to make a game successful without ruining it from greed. I'm still hoping for a digital warhammer 40k or Sigmar game where if you buy irl models you get a code for the online versions or buy models packs in game cheaper and build and paint them...

So what exactly is your problem here? It seems like no matter what the devs do, they'll have shat in your cereals. seriously...

not sure how charging 30 bucks for a game is greed, Even though it is in early access I have seen and bought more expensive games that are in way worse shape than this is in amd it seems this will only get better.

i do have the advantage in living in a town with a free to eat grocery store and a free to pump gas station so i didnt have any trouble coming up with 30 dollars from going to my free to work job

Less than 100 people at peak shows exactly what they screwed up on.

I have a somewhat different view. I think they made a mistake in focusing this on being a PVP battle game. It's a matter of mis-reading the potential audience for such a game.

The thing about tabletop games is unless the game is designed with a "CPU" mode, a second player is required for the full experience. More single-player or campaign tabletop miniatures games is in fact, what a lot of fans of the genre have been asking for for years. Digital versions of this genre have the potential to fill in the gap. Quite easy to add as many additional players as required via the CPU.

I strongly suspect what would REALLY turn heads would be the digital tabletop version of the Total War franchise: a robust conquest-oriented strategic campaign, against computer-controlled factions, with battles played out in tabletop format. Human multiplayer obviously could be included as well just like Total War - but it wouldn't be the primary draw.

Warhammer Underworlds, the digital version, made this same error. Almost nobody is playing it even though it is a faithful translation of the physical game because A: most people interested in pure PVP are already playing the physical game and B: from day one the digital version's lack of single player content was a red flag many people pointed out.

In terms of a mostly PVP focused digital tabletop game, I'm not sure there is huge potential for a real sports scene unless it was an official adaption of one of the few really big physical games, like 40k or Infinity. What a LOT of people want, is the experience of playing tabletop available even when they're by themselves. There should be a big clue in the resurgence in popularity of turn-based strategy games with campaign modes, that X-Com kicked off.

tl;dr - the battle framework for this game is ace. But it's going nowhere as a multiplayer pvp focused product.

This pretty much.
It's the reason I haven't bought the game and probably never will, even though the setting and genre should be right up my alley.

If I wanted a PvP-focused freemium experience, well, we all have a bunch of those on our phones already. Of course YMMV, but unless they introduce some strategic overlay or other mechanic to make the singleplayer gameplay more valid I'm probably not the target audience.

Disagree,

I bought the game for the PVP experience, after two days never played again, gets boring nothing new no big challenges and nothing to go after.
I mentioned in discord and other places already game needs MODs
Star wards, Lord of the rings whatever it is make it public and let people go for it. need 2x2, 3x3 , or anything you can make it to become more interesting and social.
war games ? 8x8 , capture the flag, anything would help lol

I'm sure as time goes they will add more pieces and that will add a lot of variety and with that comes a massive need for balance. As long as they don't smash people over the head with power creep I think it should go ok. Throw in 100 more units including captains and all the sudden the pvp gets a lot deeper.

Don't really know what people expect for a deep single player experience, it can happen but the pvp is what the hardcore fans playing. You finish the single player part of it and walk away, the pvp is endless. It's like the same as starcraft in a way. Single player people beat it and move on but the multiplayer people still playing many many years later.

Not many table top games you play by yourself compared to the ones you play with other people so I don't know why anyone would approach something like this with a story driven single player campaign in mind.

if its multiplayer only, kinda a steep price for early access, not sure how many units are in the game but it doesn't look like alot. Also if there is not 2v2 or 3v3 then it's just like every other game out there but more expensive. You can buy table simulator and get access to tons of table top games for less, so not sure what they're thinking. They should have released the game for free and charged for army packs or something.

Already a niche genre. Charge $30 for it. Initially launched with microtransactions during early access. Have 3 game modes. The first live-service game from a company known for single-player games.

Why the low playerbase?

The playerbase does seem a bit low rn... But I don't regret buying it, I genuinely enjoy the gameplay and look forward to seeing this game grow. I really think it has a lot of potential, we just might need to wait a few months. It's not uncommon for an early access game to have a rocky start at launch.

All they care about these days is how much they can fleece you for (overwatch 2) as an example. There's NO need for it, and by trying their hand at it they just harm and often kill their products and instead of those high salary morons actually seeing this they ar elike "oh well duuuur let's spend million making another game duuuuur we can try the same with duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur"
