The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

The Cell Phone Code
The cell phone code in this game was just not good. It wasn't fun, and it wasn't intuitive. Something like that would work if it was just to unlock a fun little mini game, but because unlocking the cell phone was on my Awesome Adventure Log, it felt like something I needed to do before advancing.

Please, if devs read this, please at least make the puzzles a little bit more intuitive if they're not easter eggs.

Thank you!

(And if you're here to find the code - I found mine by googling it)

I agree. They could have at least put the letters on the number-buttons, so that we get an idea, that we search for a word and not a number.
Also, it was the father's phone, so the code absolutely didn't make any sense. It should have been a date/year related to the mother, or even the kid.

Totally agree, at least that way we would have had some kind of hint. I assume there might be some younger people around who might not even know how texting worked before everyone had a smartphone, thus the code would make absolutely no sense to them.
I was trying all kinds of combinations of times and dates. Could have at least had a Hawt Dawg lock screen or something...

I was stuck in that part of the game, and I spent many hours trying all the combinations of numbers that appeared as dates in the documents, without any luck.

Yeah, when I saw what the actual code was online I was thankful I didn’t spend a lot of time trying to figure it out. The cell phone lock screen at the very least should have included the alphabet on the PIN numbers to indicate to not to look at just specific dates.
A clue was hot dog man popping out of the phone in Chris to-do list. It's obvious in retrospect but I didn't get at the time either.

It's not because the Hawt Dawg man is only there because Chris wanted to play Mustard Party 2 on the phone. Even now that i know the code, i wouldn't assume a connection between the picture and the pin code. And.. it's the phone of his dad. Seems awkward that he would use that word as a pin code.
I agree that this pin code doesn't make any sense. What bugged me the most is that it is possible to call the mobile from the other phone in the entrance, thus by answering to the phone while calling it, it would have been possible to unlock it and bypass the pin code. I'm surprised that devs didn't think about that, it woudl have been a nice puzzle.
Since it was the father's phone, the code really made no sense at all. Also classic #PIN codes here are only four numbers.. Would have been a nice puzzle if the answer would have been the date/year of mother or Chris birth at least.

Try this with your own phone. It doesn't work that way.

And thank goodness that smartphone OS developers are smarter than you in that regard, because that would be one hell of a security flaw.
maaaaan i had to look it up too :(

makes not much sense to me as well

1) smartphones don't have letters corresponding to numbers
2) nobody uses such a long string of numbers to unlock their phone, i mean EVERYTIME you wonna check your phone? really?
3) OK a grown up might use this kind of trick, but a kid such as Chris would never guess it! HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW OLD CELL PHONES WORK!!! it's not Chris who figures it out, it's THE PLAYER, which kinda breaks the wall

unless i missed the one important clue that Chris could use

My bad :D

But once again, this pin code is totally stupid. I suspect the devs to have make this to create a kind of Google referencing hack to boost artificailly the Google trend on "life is strange 2". It doesn't make sense in any other way.

And here's the codes I tried btw (I'm sure 90% tried the same ones):
  • 7777
  • 0000
  • 1234
  • 2005
  • 2007
  • 200527
  • .. then I gave up and googled

Some people actually have long passwords for their phones.

The idea behind the code was to give the community as a whole something to work together to solve, something that would bring people together to work as a team to figure it out. And we did see that happen as threads started popping up and people coordinated with each other to try out different combos and ideas. We have seen this behaviour happen many times over in the past and we saw it again here before the code was cracked. People came into the various communities to find out more and engaged with the other players there and I firmly believe that in a way it brought the community together a little more.

Captain Spirit wasn't designed the way a regular LiS Episode is - With Captain Spirit we tried very much to focus on replayability and secrets and easter eggs that will keep the community engaged till we're ready to reveal LiS2. It was never our intention that Captain Spirit should be a 100% achievable and uninstalled in under a couple of hours.
