How does Hypnospace work?

Asking purely from a lore perspective here.

Obviously, I don't mean the whole idea of like how the headset works but more so how exactly the UI would work and how citizens would navigate while asleep.

Since we can assume they don't have access to a keyboard and mouse while asleep how do they navigate?

by looking around the screen? thinking what they want to do?

This question has bugged me for a while and i'm not sure why.

The headset detects the brain patterns that one would use to control a keyboard and mouse when awake :)
