Blackscreen on Janitor?

I finally got to the game where there was a download with a "Janitor" install. I honestly don't know what it is, but when I run the Janitor it completely locks up the game. It goes to a black screen, makes some sounds, but then I have to ctrl-alt-del the entire game.

What is wrong?

Been having the same issue. Played Janitor just fine on previous versions of Hypnospace.

Just to confirm - you both own the game on Steam? Windows? And can you tell me some of your system specs please?

Yep. Running Windows 10 laptop with an intel i5-8250U processor w/ 8 gig ram.

The save file # corresponds to the 01-03 on your main menu.

@skywalkr2, your save file appears to run fine on my end so it appears to be an issue localized to your computer. Have you experienced any issues with videos in the game at all, or other visual issues? Weird glitches that, uh, appear unintentional?

Please try the following, one at a time, and launch the game and try Janitor again for each item:

1) Verify Integrity of Game Files: Steam -> Right-Click Hypnospace -> Properties -> Local Files

2) Uninstall then re-install the game (your save files will be fine unless you're using portable mode via the in-game BIOS)

3) Go into the game files, then find this file: ".../data/video/janitorstart.webm". Rename it to "janitorstart.bak.webm", then launch the game and try janitor again

If all of these fail, try to open the janitorstart.webm video using whatever media player you have on your computer, or drag-and-drop it into your web browser. Report back if it plays fine there or not.

You could also try the solution to this thread, though depending on your graphics card and drivers, etc, the steps you need to follow may differ:

Aside from this issue with Janitor... so far its fine. Also note that previous to your last update I never got as far as this. So i can't compare it to previous. Ill try these items and get back to you.

Okay Interesting. Steps 1 and 2 did nothing. step 3 I was able to get farther. Files or something started to appear on my desktop, and then I tried clicking on them.... and then the page went to black again.

Oh and I am able to view the webm files with no issue outside of the app using a simple video player in windows 10.

@skywalkr2 and @Robust Laser - Can you please try the following:
1) Update your graphics card - if you're running a system with multiple gfx cards (ex: a laptop with both an integrated gfx card and a discrete card) please update drivers for both.
2) If you have two gfx cards, one integrated, make sure your graphics settings forces the game to run on the discrete/better card

It works after updating both drivers. However hopefully I didn't mess anything up as Im not normally supposed to update my Intel driver without ACER pushing it.
