Does anyone have some tips?

I am really struggling to beat the grand prix... I feel like I'm missing something. By consistently shooting the birds I can get a pretty constant boost but it seems like the opponents chuck on a massive boost at the end and it doesn't really matter how far I'm ahead. Am I right in thinking that the rubber banding doesn't really reward trying to go in front early?

I bet it like 2 mins after posting this...

I don't feel like I did anything too differently, except for not get any kind of advantage against Scarlett, just keep shooting her whenever possible, and then lucked out with some birds at the end.

Even winning pretty much every race I was only getting low rankings (like Fs) so maybe I was still missing something.

Nice! Yeah, the constant boosting was the thing I didn't realize which kept me from beating the game for a long time. Seriously, I entered the grand prix over ten times. It was not a good look for your ol' pal, Buddy.

Sorry for the necro, but I thought it was funny that I also kept failing the Grand Prix, then came here to check this thread and literally the next attempt I beat it.

Super annoying to have to walk back to the flyer after each failed attempt, as if the Prix wasn't frustrating enough on it's own.
