why cant i build vehicles?

i now have made a small base and i have a fabricator but i cant make the building needed to make vehicles i wish to build a space ship so i can go to other planets but i cant. is there some glitch going on or do i need to complete a certain mission to unlock this? the most advanced crafting thing i can make is the fabricator and im pretty sure there should be some sort of crafting station for making vehicles.

Was wondering the same thing - can't believe no one has answered. Obviously now you have to "unlock" it after building something. But what? I've been building all sorts of things and the lab still wasn't unlocked. And there's no hint or guide what unlocks what. There is a work-around - I got tired of this just dinking around and went into console and turned "creative" on. Built the lab that way.

I think when you build the barracks... the laboratory will be unlocked...
