The trilogy is a remaster of the original 1980's pseudo-3d RPG

R&R is an updated version of the 2004 ARPG

They are quite different things, so "best" gets kinda subjective. What sort of game are you after?
The screenshots in the store pages should give you a pretty good idea what you are looking at for each
ETA: the way they have these games for sale is maddening. The Trilogy is a slam/dunk. But I was wondering what I'm missing if I didn't also buy 'The Bard's Tale' (which on GOG doesn't mention being updated, even in the title...but Steam shows the 'Remastered and Resnarkled' part of the logo. Even the minimum specs on Gog and Steam differ. In the end, I bought both on GOG. Not a clue which is what, but it didn't break the bank. Thanks again for your help.
If you follow the link that kaypy provided, you can see that "Remastered and Resnarkled" is a completely different game than the original trilogy. It's a one-player, top-down experience, with combat that is more similar to a real-time combat engine than turn-based, and the main character talks to himself a lot. The "Remastered and Resnarkled" version *does* come with a version of the original Trilogy in its bonus content though, which I guess is "more true" to the original in terms of the graphics and all of the cludgy controls.
