What Effects Do Drinks At The Bar Do?
Do they do anything, and differ from each drink?
If so, is there a webpage that lists the effects?

Wine, at the one bar, is necessary to progress.

The other drinks, that is, every other drink at every bar in the trilogy, only serve to refresh the Bard.

The Bard is only supposed to be able to sing/play one song per exp level. There are things that can be equipped that give the Bard unlimited songs, and (in later games, I think) there are items you can carry to refresh the Bard without going back to a tavern. Lacking those, however, the only way to get the Bard to sing more is to get those vocal cords nice and well lubed.

I just saw in another thread you don't have a bard, so this whole mechanic is a waste of time for you...

But it helps me learn, and i can always add one to the party right?
kaypy 12 JUL 2022 a las 5:50 p. m.
OK, true, *you* may benefit from the information, but the only thing your current *party* is getting out of the mechanic is learning how to fall off a stool 8-)

And yeah you can swap up the party at any time that you are willing to put in the effort to level up the replacement. (Powerleveling one character with a swarm of summons is much faster than you might expect through- XP from an encounter is divided by the number of PCs in the party)

Great advice, appreciated mate!
So far im NOT enjoying the game. This is the first PC game i played as a 5 year old child that not only got me obsessed with the RPG & fantasy genre, but ive fantasized playing this for 35 years. The game is so empty and boring so far, ive invested 2 days of my life grinding through this. The battles are too easy, and the dungeons are empty and void of loot, and boring af & tedious to navigate through.
Im disappointed, i hope it gets better.
Im at Sewers Level 2 so far.

I think from what you said earlier that you probably spent longer than you should have grinding on the surface. That, plus the default halved XP requirements of the remake, plus fully exploring the dungeon if you aren't familiar with it rather than skipping half of each level, probably leaves you rather overpowered. Might be worth just skipping half the fights to fast track through to when things can stand up to you again.

ZOMG, two days to get to Sewers Lv. 2? That would normally take me...a couple of hours. You are definitely grinding in an incredibly safe manner. No wonder all of the battles are so easy!

The dungeons are largely empty except for a few key squares that are very important. Mapping our each and every square of a dungeon is quite important, so if that is boring to you, you may not enjoy this game. It's largely about exploration, strategic battles (if you don't spend most of your time grinding), and putting together obscure clues to figure out the next step.

IIRC, in the Apple IIGS version milk does NOT refresh the bard, and the bartender mocks you for ordering it. Other than that there is no real difference in the effect of what drink you order, although some are more expensive than others. Still, gold shouldn't be a problem, and I think it is from 2gp to 25gp between beer and foul spirits, so it doesn't really matter.

I know you can get a wineskin right from the start at Garth's in BT II and refill it at the bar for your bard to have "drinks on the go". Otherwise, as others have said it's only real use is for the bard.

Yep, definitely grinding too long. Took me less then 5 hours to beat the entire BT1 game and I wasn't even trying due to halfed experience requirements. I've since moved over to legacy as I enjoy that much more. There really is something off-putting about how fast the levels come with the remake otherwise and you end up cheesing your way through everything because spells won't affect you and physical attacks are pretty easily nullified as well, especially if you have a bard with the way level ups will also increase the benefits of traveller's tune. Can do the same thing with anti-magic song plus 4 monks and be invincible by the time you exit the sewers until last 2 dungeon levels of the game.

The more expensive the drink, the greater the effect (# of songs refreshed), however. Don't remember if it was in the Originals or nor, since back then I'd somewhat quickly found an item that gave unlimited songs.

Some of the other effects can get hilarious, tho.... I have a female Bard. In drinking the cheapest drink available, it says the women in the tavern are less than impressed. Like another woman would care.....

Very off-topic from the game, but I agree. In my experience at bars, women do make fun of guys who can't drink as much as they do, but I haven't encountered many women who make fun of other women who can't drink as much as they do.

Then again, the original game in the 80's was written by a bunch of dudes (at the time I think the Burger still identified as male?), so that line might have made more sense to them.

Also the first two games didn't have female characters back in the day.

true, but you'd think they'd have updated this with everything else.

There's no milk in the Apple IIGS version. But there's Ginger Ale and the barkeep does mock you for ordering it.
