Anyone here played Devil Whiskey?
To put it simply, it's basically old Bard's Tale but with more modern graphics, but gameplay wise it plays exactly like BT, same menu-based combat, can be played entirely on keyboard (though it has a mouse mode). Has some really nice portraits for characters and enemies. But just like BT it's ultra grindy.

Never heard of it before. Looks interesting though. Can't find it on Steam, but there is info about it at https://www.devilwhiskey.com/

Is it like the originalun-remastered version of BT where the combat is very hard ?I did want to buy the game,do you recommend it?Also are any walkthroughs available for those times when 1 becomes frustrated? Also does it have automapping? Also it seems game is available from e junkie AND gameresgate ;are they both safe to buy fromand also do they offer updates if the game is updated;the price is cheaper at e junkie at least in AU dollars.Thoughts?
I found a few good sites that have some info

There's also a "MegaMod" which includes a bunch of mods; bug fixes, new quests etc.

Hey; was about to say the same (I worked on part of the Megamod); obviously I liked DW a lot :)

I played it a few years back. I liked the general concept but the random encounters were ridiculous. You'd barely have enough time to step forward 2 steps before the next encounter was sprung. Was pretty off-putting for me.

Aye, never got very far due to a bug, but I sometimes get the itch to dust it off and give it a serious go. Those initial slogfests of encounter spam early on can be really daunting though. I do actually like that game, but it feels like one where you pretty much want to set time for it when you are in a grindy type mood, which doesn't happen all that often with a job :P

Yeah the start can be hard but, as is usual in this kind of games, it gets easier after you gain a few levels.

Yep, first thing you should do in DW is find the first shop and start buying armor for all your characters, the game uses the same THAC0 system as AD&D so as you said the difficulty curve is somewhat inverted.

Also remember that as soon as it gets dark go to the Inn and pay to sleep until morning, night time is deadly in DW.

I really need to do a full playthrough of this game. It IS a good game, wish it got more attention than it did. It's totally worth a look if you like the Bards Tale trilogy.

Very buggy. Ranged combat was a huge overpowered mess, I remember a few spells and items not working, and my game crashed every time i tried to enter a certain dungeon.

It had potential but was abandoned or sold off before it was completed.

Its more challenging and grindy than BT, which is why I gave up on it. The spells also seemed to not work most of the time, which was a shame. I did like that you could have eight chars in the party, though.

As far as I can remember, the Megamod version (which included unofficial patches) worked correctly, without recurrent crashes. Of course, this might depend on your system...

Does "Devil Whiskey" offer any support for custom content or modification?
Slooge Jan 19, 2020 @ 10:46pm
There were a handful of people creating mods for it, but there is no official support as the current owner of the code apparently doesn't have the password to decrypt the zip file of it. Originally, the devs has planned to release the source code if it sold a certain number of copies, which would have made for infinite number of mods, but that never happened sadly.
